How does my 22 Expy update it’s software?

2022 Expy Limited. How does it update its software? Do I need to connect the Expy to my home’s Wi-Fi? Even if i do this, there isn’t enough time to download an update as I shut it off as soon as I am in my garage. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Mine updated recently without leaving it on or doing anything special. I connected it to my home WiFi months ago and it just reconnects automatically when we get home.

I'm not 100% sure, but believe that if connected to WiFi, the system will wake briefly and download updates. The reason I say this is I occasionally check my Eero router activity on my phone and have seen the truck connect at times when it is not being driven, nor shortly before/after being driven.

It will update via cellular if wifi isn't enabled or available. My '22 has updated twice since Nov and I never enabled or set up wifi.

I have a 19' it wouldn't update even when running, off of wifi. Ended up taking to Ford and having them do it. 79 dollars and two hours. Seemed worth it to get it done. You can also download updates online on a stick and plug that in. I'm not tech savvy at all so, I was happy to pay 80 dollars and be done with it. The technician also updated maps at the same time.

I have Auto update selected. It will connect and update on its own. Got a couple new games
