I was in Mexico for part of the winter so my 2019 Platinum Expedition has only been driven 2400 miles since my last oil change.

No towing but mostly cold weather short trips since I changed it at the end of November.

I use Mobil1 Truck & SUV which says it’s good for 1 year between oil changes.

Should I trust them and just change the oil before I start towing our travel trailer long distances again later this Spring (I have one 90 minute trip coming up this week and then nothing for a while)? Or do these eco boost engines really need to stick with the 6 month limit even on such low mileage?

I'm sure it would be fine, but if it were me I would consider it cheap insurance to change it anyway.

Should be no issues with the length.

Personally I would switch to a better oil like Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Valvoline Advanced when you do the oil change. The additives in those oils are vastly superior to mobile.

Modern synthetic oils can go past 6 months no problem. I don't drive mine often so it ends up being changed roughly once a year, which lines up with around 6k miles.

It’s so tough to ascertain differences between these top oil brands, I find.

After reading many comparisons it seems that most people choose Mobil1 but it’s unclear why.

I found when using regular Mobil1, I burned oil badly while towing but do not burn any with the Truck and SUV type so I trust it so far.

Please provide the data that supports this statement.

All three are excellent choices for Synthetic, including Mobil 1. I prefer Valvoline, but that is because I used their Synthetic in my Diesels and it made a world of difference over the oil the dealer was putting in at the time. So if I have my choice it is what I chose. That being said, any of these 3 well known and tested brands will do great in the Ecoboost at the right weight.

OP, sorry I had to address the bad info before responding to you. If you are using full synthetic, you are perfectly fine. It does not breakdown anywhere as quickly line standard or even semi-syn while sitting. If at all possible, have somebody start it and drive it around the block regularly. It is less about the oil and more about the lubrication and spinning everything a bit. More than the Motor, all of the running gear. It is even good for the tires.

We are no longer in the Jiffy Lube 3 Months 3K miles era. Synth oil should be replaced based on mileage and/or hard driving like towing. Synth oil last 5-8 years on the shelf so it will not breakdown in 6 months in the driveway. My rule is once a year or the mileage threshold whichever comes first. Too many people go overboard and change fluids like they are going out of style.
