Of course my new to us nav with 73k miles wants to act up when I'm deployed. The running boards(at first, just passenger, bow both sides) are acting up consistently, and on her way back home from driving from TX(while I'm sleep), the dreaded "powertrain fault" downs the truck momentarily while her mom is driving. I don't know the exact conditions, I know it was raining hard and she said traffic was heavy, but still this is concerning. Is there anything I should be worried about? What are some things I(she) can do to help it out? I'm guessing maybe a tune up, but I found out, I have to pay the running boards motor replacement out of pocket if I go that route.

A tune up wont resolve what is probably an electrical fault. I would pull the fuse for the running boards while they are down and get them out of the equation.

There's no wrench at the moment according to her. I may have to lower the boards atleast for now.
