I recently bought an used 2008 expedition, the vehicle has mechanical fan for radiator cooling, but I see another single electric fan in the front- passenger side. I assume it has to work when AC is switched on. In my vehicle I have never seen it working. I searched and could not find any relevant information. I am not sure if it is a retrofit, any one having it with similar arrangement and any advice? I have ordered a wiring diagram and waiting to receive it after 2-3 weeks, but due to urgency-summer I thought to get any input from you guys.
Thanks

2008's have a electric clutch fan thats run by the computer. Take a picture of the little fan for us to see. That small fan must be aftermarket because I believe they didnt put in all electric fans until 2010.Is your A/C not working or the truck not cooling correctly? If not, again the truck is cooled by the only fan you should have. Look into replacing the fan clutch. its not difficult with the right tools and a little know how.

Ricco4592, thanks for your response. I referred the electric clutch fan as mechanical fan, which is mounted on the crank shaft? But I can see from front gril another small electric fan, see the photo of similar appearance. I can not find any fuse or relay detail for it. The AC works fine while driving, but at stops the cooling is less, I believe this fan should run on AC pressure switch, but need further detail to trouble shoot.

Motorcity muscle, you are right, the original doesn't come with electric fan, today I got a chance to visit a dealer for service and checked in the system, sounds one of the previous owner has retrofitted a fan to improve AC cooling. I will check actual wiring and see if I can get it working. Thanks

I would be curious as to the fan, how it is mounted and wired. I would like to add same to my 2001 as the AC struggles when stopped in +90 degree heat. Perhaps a relay wired to trip when brakes applied or when in park, and AC compressor on would be correct logic.

Jamicajoe, i examined the wires today, interestingly it seems to be via original harness, and the mounting is perfect like from factory. I will further examine when I get the factory wiring manual I ordered. I have seen explorer too, some with 2nd fan. For 2001 you can easily install one. I will try to share actual photo soon. The fan should be started and stopped via a high pressure switch at inlet of condenser, you can add one easily I hope. The switch has hysteresis to cut in and cut out so that an external relay can drive the fan.

I installed 2 electric fans on my '07 on the front of the condenser. They are wired to a pair of relays (one for each fan). The relays are triggered by the AC compressor clutch wire. I used to work in northwest Mexico and I would cross the border daily, often waiting in the border line for several hours, at idle, in >110'F heat (but it was a dry heat  ). I also did this on my 2001 Expy back in the day for the same reasons, but that one also had a temperature sensor that was wedged into the radiator fins in addition to the AC signal line.
