Hello Everyone,

I stupidly backed into a small retaining wall and now I'm getting a "park assist fail" error. The damage looks relatively minimal - some scratches on the bumper but no dent.

The Ford dealer would charge $200 just to diagnose the issue. My decision is whether to just file an insurance claim, pay the $500 deductible, and then have the park assist and the bumper repaired. If fixing the park assist fail is easy/cheap, I can live with the bumper scratches.

Does anyone have any experience with the typical cost of repairing a park assist fail? The park assist sensors show no visible damage. If these jobs are always $1000+, I'll have to just file a claim.

Thanks!

If it's really that low of a cost to fix I wouldn't file a claim for it. It will reduce your value more through the carfax report than what you are saving by having the insurance cover the cost (less deductible).

Check the connectors first. I’d start there.
Maybe you just knocked one loose.
If not take it to a reputable auto body place. They deal with this all day long. A lot of time they can repair it for a few hundred dollars.
I had my explorer bumper replaced when someone else scratched it for about $650.
Not worth the insurance hassle and next incident your rates go up. Will cost you more long term.
