My expedition is acting up real bad. On and off when I insert the key all it will do is turn acc mode on. It won't even try to turn the engine. Also, the red light around the gear it's in won't be there. Not only that, but when I stop at a gas station and put it into park, go in, come back out and put it into park or drive all it will do is reeve up. after about 5 to 40 seconds of it being in that gear it finally shifts into it. Also sometimes when I get stopped at a light and I start to go it seems like it gets stuck in limp mode and won't shift past 1st or second gear and starts redlining. It will eventually shift though. I've taken it to two ford dealerships and they can't find anything wrong. I finally took it to aamco and they ran a computer test on it and the codes for theft detection and the transmission sensor shows up. I didn't know if anyone would have a idea or if this has happened to anyone that has owned a expedition or any other car for that matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did AAMCO give you the actual code #'s? And, while I'm at it, do you have a CEL (check engine light) on? That might help us narrow things down a bit.

it sounds like theft protection. if you want you can have ammco turn that off... maybe. not sure if they could though. or see if ford can reflash your key and pats system. that might help also.

I find it hard to believe that an Aamco shop can detect these codes and a dealership can't. I would find another dealer to perform any future work.
The key problem does indeed sound like a PATS issue, and the transmission issue could be a sensor as they determined. I would hope that is the issue or your tranny may have some other issues.
It's possible to turn off the PATS, but that should be a last ditch effort. See if a reprogram works first as Panda said.

BTW, how is you battery? Low juice has been known to cause funky electrical gremlins.

1st and last time I went to AAmaco. Took car in making a lot of noise when accelerating. I was young 20's yr old. new to cars. I was told it needed $1400 in transmission work. I did not have the money so drove it with the noise. One day the motor mount gave way, yep it was a broken motor mount the whole time. $100 later. Good as new. All AAmaco's can't be bad but any shop that needs to advertise so much must be getting no referrals.
Get some referrals and find a service dept that you can rely on. Sorry I put AAmaco up there with Wal-mart. Not trying to be ugly, just learned to find a auto and boat mechanic that won't cause more harm or cost you more time and money. Good luck! Tomm
