My 2012 5.4 recommends 5W-20 semi-syn but I've been using 5W-30 since day 1. 178,000 miles later, she's running like a dream. I'm a Valvoline guy and started using their "Restore and Protect" product in both of our Expy's (2012 and 2016).
I second adding the Melling high-volume pump in place of what they've quoted. The Melling pump has been mentioned in various websites for several years when doing this job.
If you live where salt and brine are used on the roads, dont bother trying. I did and failed. I wish someone made a kit to add grease fittings. Then you could get them to work all the time.
You should pull a Carfax on any vehicle you are considering. Look and see where the vehicle was originally purchased or leased. If it was from the middle or Southern States are out in Arizona, California, Etc., you should see very little to no rust. There's lots of expeditions out there for...
I get the sense that you've been chasing this all by yourself and have never taken it into a dealer. Might be time to take it into a dealer don't you think?
I have a 12 with the 3 valve 5.4. 162,000 miles on original engine. Only tranny work was a couple points ago. Some circuit board in the tranny was starting to fail. Got the dreaded "wrench" in the display 1x and 1x only. Since I'm wanting to drive this truck into the ground I decided to spend...
Now have the same issue on our 2016. I haven't done it yet but I'm going to remove the cables from the battery and touch them together so it drains all the power out of the system and then reconnect them. It's going to be a couple days but I'll post the results when I do it.
155K trouble-free miles until yesterday. Wrench light came on all of a suddent. No noticeable change in engine performance. Was almost home and when I got home I shut it off and turned it back on...no problems.
Today, on my way back home from Menards, the wrench light goes on again, cruise...
On my 2012 Expy (long one) I had leaks iin the rear line. The dealer installed some type of kit that closed off the lines in the back AC. So only the front AC works now and the AC blows plenty that the 1st two rows are cool.
I have 2 comments:
1. I'm partial to Nokian tires as they are great performers in winter and have excellent tread wear characteristics. Also, Goodyear Wranglers w/Kevlar as they exhibit the same characteristics.
2. I would never buy tires from a place like Walmart, Costco, or Sam's. Why are...
Sorry, didn't see this response until now. I have not checked it but I will. The exterior lamps and the interior lamps stay on for a while after you close the door but then they shut off. But the LED accessory stays on! I can't figure out why that's happening.
2012 Expedition EL Limited. I have this accessory LED light that I want to have it turn on when the parking lamps go on and the headlights go on. So I get some of those "add a line" things where you put the original fuse in one slot and then a fuse for the accessory you want to add.
So I...
I'm looking to add some exterior LED, I'll call them decorative lights to our twenty twelve and twenty sixteen Expeditions. I'm going to be installing a relay so that the leds pull power right from the battery. My question is i'm looking for the best place and safest place to pull the trigger...
I wish my 2012 Expy EL Limited (and 2016 shortie) had fixed running boards! Have retractable boards on both and they are a PITA to keep functionable here in Wisconsin. Ford really 'effed up in my opinion for not making them greaseable, or at least making it easy to remove, lubricate and...
No replies? WOW!
I'll add based on experience:
1. Change the oil in the 3.5 engine at least every 5K miles (or sooner) with a high quality synthetic oil. I'm a Valvoline guy but use what you want just so it's a good oil (Valvoline, Mobil 1, Castrol, etc.)
2. Change the tranny fluid and filter...
