After driving it some more, I ended up with the 171/174 codes. I went ahead and replaced the Amazon special pump with a Delphi unit and a motorcraft fuel filter. Now it has 53 psi at idle. I'm betting I'll be good now. I'll be test driving shortly.
It doesn't really feel like it's bogging down but it's never really had much power being a 4.6. I used an Amazon special fuel pump that I installed into my assembly. My concern is that it's not a 171/174 code. It's only showing lean on one bank.
Update: under load the pressure drops to 25-27 psi. I left the gauge hooked up and went driving down the highway. Hard acceleration made the pressure drop from 40 to 25-27.
It actually goes down when I rev it. I just performed the fuel pressure test again. 40 psi at idle drops to 35 when I rev it. I'm going to leave the gauge hooked up and drive it on the highway. Freeze frame shows the lean condition detected under 80% load or higher at highway speeds.
I replaced the fuel pump on my 04 4.6 back in July along with the fuel filter due to p0171/174 along with confirmed low fuel pressure. Car ran great and I drove it to Destin and back to Houston no problems. I used an aftermarket fuel pump through Amazon which may or may not have been a mistake...
The engine had about 90000 miles on in it. I did not see any damage to the tone ring. The code usually takes a few drive cycles to come back. I did not do the ECU relearn procedure. Should I clear the codes and try the procedure?
2004 4.6 Expedition with a P0315 code. Runs fine. I replaced the crank sensor and reset the codes. I inspected the wiring from the sensor with no issues found. I replaced the engine last year with a used motor. I replaced all the timing components at that time (chains, guides, tensioners)...
How did you know to replace the #1 COP with no codes? I'm experiencing the same issue on my 04 4.6. I've replace the crank sensor and found no issues with wiring. I only have the PO320 code but I'm not having any driveability issues. No stalling, bucking/jerking, etc.
My 04 XLT is doing the same thing. I attempted a repair with JB Weld's Water Weld product. It still seems to be leaking vapor although the actual fuel leak appears to be fixed. I've searched for replacement tanks with no luck. They don't make them. I'm thinking it's a known problem but we...
Update: I pulled the front cover to replace the plastic tensioners with the cast iron set. I noticed some wear on the tone wheel for the crankshaft. After inspecting the wheel and the front cover, it appears as though the harmonic balancer was not far enough up on the crankshaft to hold the...
I have an 04 Expedition with a 4.6 swapped from an 04 Police Interceptor. I replaced the chains, guides, and tensioners when we did the swap. I used aftermarket tensioners. I did NOT replace the oil pump. The problem now is that after the vehicle warms up, I'm hearing what sounds like time...
I know it's an old post, but did you have any issues removing the old rear main? Did you first remove the retainer plate? I took the plate off, but the rear main seams stuck to the crankshaft.
I bought it broke. It was a gamble. My profile pic is of the guides or what was left of them. I cleaned all the pieces out of the oil pan and took a shot. I've also got low performance on cylinder 4 according to a power balance test. I haven't run a compression test yet.
My 2004 4.6 XLT has about 230k miles on it. It's making some death rattle noises. I've already replaced the timing set due to the guides completely coming apart. My question is can I use a 4.6 out of a 2004 police interceptor Crown Vic? Both vehicles have a W for the 8th digit in the VIN. I...
My fuel tank is leaking at the front fitting where the evap hose connects to the tank. Went to the wrecking yard and found another tank and of course, it's leaking in the same place. Ford does not make that tank anymore. I'd like to replace it with a new piece. Has anyone had any luck...
It's leaking from the vent where it actually attaches to the tank. Has anyone ever repaired one? I've never seen one leak like that. Gas is coming out between the white part around the edge where the line connects.
Done and done. I replaced the coil and the plug. Then I swapped injectors with another cylinder. Still shows low on #4 at idle but clears up on acceleration.
I've got a power balance issue on #4. Shakes at idle, weird noises intermittently, no trouble codes (besides the po442), runs great at highway speed, and the power balance shows that #4 clears up above 1000 RPM. I'd definitely like to know where the flywheel came into play!
