    Mine had one or two screws either where the sunglass holder is or the garage door opener, then it's clips, pull down from the front.

    I have the one I pulled from my 02 but the funny thing is the year on the unit is 2005. Odd. Guess it was replaced before I got a hold of it.Worked fine when I pulled it . Let me know if you think it will work. I can take a pic of the connectors if you like.

    I wouldn't cut the wire at all, use a tap. Smaller and less invasive.

    There is a button type sensor in the column. As far as I know they can be "Adjusted". take the column apart and follow the wires. Good luck.
