^^^^ That was my thought as well. Would make sense with the work you performed.
@ Stamp.. the oil pump on these motors are located on the front of the block. Goes over the crank behind the timing gear so dropping the pan no longer gives access.
Started mine up and moved it after sitting a few weeks.
Did not want to back up... I easily located it to the drivers side wheel locking up in reverse. Fairly sure the parking brake is having issues releasing...
Another thing to repair... :(
After it has been initially set up and run it should be tight!
Failure of the guides/tensioner is somewhat common with these. They have metal and plastic versions. Metal is ideal, plastic is prone to fail at the mounting point.
When you drain the tranny this does not necessarily drain the trans cooler lines and definitely not the torque converter as mentioned. So the 7 quarts you put in mixed with the total capacity.
The on board diagnostics with the pcm is designed to aid in diagnosis. It is by no means perfect. Only when certain parameters are met, or sensors exceed a given value will it set a cel and store the code. Does this mean it detects every issue every time and know whats wrong with your...
Narrow band O2 sensors such as used in the expy can only read rich or lean, they cannot actually tell what the air/fuel ratio is. The pcm maintains stoich (14.64 to 1) by constantly toggling back and forth between rich and lean. This happens very quickly when the O2 sensors are new or in good...
It may be worth changing the upstream O2 sensors. (nearest the engine) These are used by the pcm to tune the engine. You can have your exhaust checked for back pressure to determine the condition of your cats.
Do you keep your tires properly inflated?? Rolling resistance can have a big...
Crazy busy at work so have not had time to mess with the expy. :(
But the good news is $$ is coming in so it will help. Think I will get another driver so I can take my time with it if it ends up being more than a lash adjuster.
If I end up having to pull the motor I would like to go through...
Just so you know the "right side" of the motor is the passenger side and the "left" is the drivers side. It's contrary to what you might assume as you view it from the front. Make sure you have all the timing gear on the correct side.
My guess is you have the tensioner on the incorrect side...
There are 4 cats as said.
There are also 4 O2 sensors as well. The 2 upstream sensors, banks 1 & 2 is what the pcm uses to tune the truck. The downstream sensors are solely for monitoring the effectiveness of the cats and used for monitoring emissions.
Many have removed the rear cats with...
I believe your best option to get the pats fixed is unfortunately the dealer.
You can turn off the pats as well as the cel trigger it would set via a custom tune. I personally have done this but had the tuner already as well as the ability to tune it. But in your situations this would...
Running high compression with boost and low octane fuel, as with the ecoboost, has everything to do with the direct cylinder fuel injection. The timing and how fuel is injected into the cylinder gives it the ability to control or eliminate detonation. It also has a much stronger effect in...
I would suggest going to 3" exhaust where the two pipes from each bank merge and continue with the 3" the rest of the way back. That Y is the biggest bottle neck as I see it. That or run true duals all the way back and don't forget the x or h pipe. As far as mufflers..... most of the...

That's the coolant temp sensor I was referring too. I believe Swagga mounted it into the block as there was a threaded knock out in the block coolant passage that was convenient. Other options may be drilling and tapping lower intake to accept the sensor. Or rewrite the tune to do away with...
Yep.... convinced its time to take on a car payment. It has been quite some time but might save enough in fuel to help pay for much of it. Been averaging a little under 12mpg with the Expy.
Flexplate or "flywheel" is mounted to the end of the crankshaft. The torque converter is bolted to it which transfers the power to the transmission. Not really "in the transmission" but is covered by the bell housing.
The important thing is the flexplate is surrounded by teeth, or large ring...
Oil pressure has been good.
Definitely sounds like a lash adjuster to me at this point due to the location of the sound. But the odd thing is it worse when its warmed up. When it is cold there is no noise. I think of "lifters" as bleeding down when shut off and do not like to pump back up...
After I washed my Expedition yesterday took it for a drive to dry it off. Not particularly hard on it and it just began rapping loudly. Pulling in the driveway, open the hood and it sounds like its coming from the drivers side valve cover area at the front. My guess would be a bad lash...
