Help me decide on a muffler

I've never been a fan of either magnaflow nor Flowmaster. By muff of choice is Dynomax Ultraflows. You have to be careful though, they are very high flow (about as close to a straight pipe as a person can get), and they can have a bad drone if they are oversized for the application. Also, for...

    Noise

would really help if you could describe the noise a bit more. like a rattling? hissing? banging? grinding? whirring? cat in a blender screeching??? If you have a video cam, maybe try to catch it on tape and upload it so we can hear it...

What did you do to the expy today

I went with Bosch Evolutions my last wiper change, and changed sizes as well. Went to 24" on drivers side and 22 on the Pass. Works perfectly, and get more clear windshield :)

What did you do to the expy today

let's see Bought a set of cheapie driving lights, will give me an excuse to fix up some wiring and get things run right. Then when I get the good lights they'll just be a drop in. That will be next weekends job... Cleaned out the garbage that's already accumulated in the back seat...

ROFL!!!! thanks, I really needed that laugh tonight :roflsquared::roflsquared::roflsquared:

    Thermostat problems?

That reminds me of a much needed maintenance procedure required on the old SHO's after refilling the coolant: "Burping" the hoses... if the system was not completely purged of air, the temp gauges would give really wacky readings: could show completely cold when the system was hot, or way over...

    let's talk about power gains...

Oooooo, a tornado! I didn't even think of that one. Thanks for reminding me, I'm gonna order me one tonight and triple the mileage and add 559 HP to my beast! Thanks for reminding me about those Tom... ;-)

    Thermostat problems?

did you happen to knock a wire off the water temp sensor? I have no idea where it would be located on the modular engines, but I know that was an easy thing to do unintentionally on the older 8's...

    let's talk about power gains...

yeah, that's pretty much my line of thinking. Already got 3.73's, time to open up the intake side, then tune, then exhaust.

    Eaton M112 (lightning)

sounds about right to me, especially if you are running near the top end for that compressor, efficiency can really drop off when it's running flat out. I would expect close to equal fuel consumption at moderate boost levels, but with better vehicle performance... THanks for that update :)

    Gen 1 LSD's

Ahh, ok Good to know, thank you :)

    Gen 1 LSD's

hopefully a quick and easy question for y'all... When a Gen 1 4x4 was equipped with LSD(s) from the factory; did both axles get one, or was it like Toyota with an LSD in the rear and an open diff in the front? Just curious...

    let's talk about power gains...

I had briefly considered underdrives, but considering the historical loss of alternator charging ability I passed on that idea pretty quick. The truck has a largish winch installed, and I will be adding a set (or two) of high power driving lights, so the thought of losing any charging ability...

    New dude from Houston

Hey bones, welcome I'm still just a new guy to the forum (and Expedition ownership) myself, but regardless Hi :) Gotta say, love the city you're in. I get down there a couple times a year for work, and always enjoy my visits there. What area are you in?

    let's talk about power gains...

yeah, could look at gearing all right, but for that cost I think I would look at engine mods first - which I son't want to undertake right now, rather stick with bolt ons at this time. btw, it's got the 9.75" 3.73 LSD diffs, so don't see a lot of improvement there unless I go to 4.30's or...

    let's talk about power gains...

Only had the '97 for about 3 weeks thus far, and still getting the basic maintenance up to spec so this is more looking at the long run... Have been enjoying driving it, but for having a 5.4 it just feels, uhhhh, choked. Simply doesn't have the response that I feel it should. Feels like the...

    Eaton M112 (lightning)

    Big Region

Cool, definately not that far off. Cow-gary myself. But truth be told, I would love to get out of the city. I am sick of the 'big' city BS, and would like to get back to a smaller town, unfortunately my work kind of requires me to be in the big city. In fact, my employer has threatened...

    Hi from Alberta

Good ol' Cow town... How about you? < edit> never mind, I just read the other thread... hehe Yeah, that is definately one of the things that attracted me to it. Great colour with some character, and not just the plain old boring beige/tan/white/gray that 80% of cars wear these days...

    Hi from Alberta

Oh, and here's a picture of the new beast Looks pretty good from this side, other than the rust spot on the rear quarter. Once I get the other side fixed up I'll get some better pics of her

    Hi from Alberta

Thanks for the welcomes all Glad I found the place. Already found some good information, and I am sure I will get some good answers once I dig into the project more and come up with a few questions... Indeed it was. Mine was even more so in it's rusty and crusty 25 year old guise...
