2015 Expedition (3rd Gen) - Removing second row captain's chairs

Star-art provided the factory instructions at this forum post: https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/2010-2008-seat-swap.29708/page-2 However, it still seems pretty confusing. One of those things - simple if you know how, impossible if you don't. If somebody could explain removing the rear...

just how far can you go after zero miles to empty

TobyU, I can definitely use all four of the gallons below "zero miles left", and I regularly do. And every other car I have owned has had an accurate fuel gauge. But it is this one I am complaining about. Because it is not accurate. This is 2020. How can a gauge not be accurate? There is full...

just how far can you go after zero miles to empty

I hear you O7navi. That may all be well and correct. I just wish my gas gauge was accurate. You know, Zero on the gauge = zero gas, so I know where empty is, instead of guessing or "calculating". Especially when low, that is the critical time to need to know. I suppose if I lived in a place...

just how far can you go after zero miles to empty

My tank holds 28 gallons. When the odometer warning says "0 miles to empty", my tank has 4.0 gallons left. I have measured this many times. I find it very annoying that the gauge is not accurate. What is the point of having a gauge if you have to guess how much gas is left during the last few...

FL7Z78001A06A bumper air deflector or shield missing. Do I need it?

I cut mine off, just for added clearance, plus I didn't like the look. Nothing seems any different to me. My Expe isn't any faster. It doesn't use more gas. Maybe more jack rabbits get away. It does look different. There must be some science behind that piece of plastic, I just don't know if it...

    Reclaiming MPGs on Lifted Expedition

Changing from 32 to 33.3 diameter is 4.1% different, quite close enough to your 5%. So keep in mind that 16.5 mpg with the old tires will read 15.8 mpg with the new tires. Same gas efficiency! Different odometer reading, by 4.1%. If you are now driving 14.5 mpg, it is because you are happy and...

    Lug nut question

My lug nuts got swollen too. I replaced them. Just the imagination of being on the side of a dirt road with a flat tire and round lug nut was enough motivation to spend the 40 or 50 bucks that I did. Don't remember what I got, but it was recommended somewhere on these forums. Turned out they...

    What is your average MPG?

2011 XLT 4wd Lifted 2" with 33" tires, 110,000 miles. MPG = 16.6 city, around 19 mpg highway if I go fast. At 65 mph (full cruise control) I regularly get 22 mpg on longer trips. Except for passing, I never hit the accelerator hard. I use cruise control for everything, because my legs don't...

Towing with 13-14 Limited or King Ranch

Ditto on my 2011 Expe XLT 4wd with HD tow package. It has the same towing stats as the stuff above, and I have used it with heavy loads. The best load was the 4400 # tractor on the 1700# trailer, up and over the Sierra Nevada. We did 65 all the way, no problem. The motor was working, but not...

    2013 TRansmission Clunks

Changing the tranny oil is one of the better things I have done. My clunks went away - though immediately better, it took a while for complete recovery. Ford says 105k or something, forum says 60k and I agree.

Help, california is insane, mpg mods needed

Great thread. 1) You can get gas in your car using 2 screwdrivers to push the buttons back for the nozzle if you really have to do so; 2) Californians like paying more for things like gas and everything, that is why they do this; and 3) my Expy gets 22 mpg at 60 mph , it is lifted with bigger...

    Sync doesn't always find bluetooth...but it's connected.

I worked with Apple tech support for several hours to try and resolve these problems. They concluded that my 2011 model was out of date and that I need a new car for their bluetooth to work properly. Instead of a new car I got a new phone. The android Samsung works just fine.

Roadtrip ideas to make a little use of 4x4?

Seriously, I suggest Nevada. It is close by to you, and really desolate with great places to drive in real wilderness. Everyone thinks of it as desert, which it is at the lowly elevations of the valleys (4600'). The only reason you don't hear about Nevada is that no one comes here. Hit the areas...

Looking at buying a 2011 XL Expy: anything to be wary of?

Great vehicle. 105k on mine, 4 wd, driven hard with lots of rugged offroad. Feels like it is about broken in. No rattles, very quiet. Repairs to date (all under warranty): power steering hose, front drive shaft bearings, fan speed control switch, rear latch, brakes all around (rotors...

Front blower only works on setting 3 & 4, 1&2 are dead

Dealer just replaced the "actuator" in my temp control - it was behind the dash, in the center. They quoted 4 hours labor, due to the dash. In reality the mechanic completed the job in 15 minutes, while I was signing the paperwork. This was an insurance job. Just saying, removing the dash must...

    Ford extended warranty???

I bought the platinum extended warranty from the dealer for $1500 / 100k or 7 years deal. There are good things and bad things about it. I had a similar warranty from CarMax once, for a Jeep, that was a better warranty. I stalled to accept the warranty when buying a new 2011 Expe 4x4, so the...

    Anyone Install a Locker?

Owners manual says to turn off TruTrac if you get stuck. Discussion elsewhere on this forum, one fellow who seemed knowledgeable, said that the differentials lock when you turn off TruTrac. Difficult to know for sure, but very odd that traction is better without the fancy feature. I usually...

2017 Drivers seat is so uncomfortable

Man, I guess you are right. I was dumb. I just sat in a Moscorovski 2 seater 2 banger, and the seats were comfortable. I should have bought that, despite that it couldn't tow my tractor and doesn't have 4WD, or a dealership in this country for that matter. But the seats were comfy, and I liked...

    Wheel Rim advice?

I bought F150 18" aluminum rims on Craig's List for $100 and spray painted them black. Hercules 10 ply tires, a 2" spacer lift kit, skid plate, and this thing now rides off-road very decently. Picture below...

2012 Expedition XLT lift gate latch jammed, gate is closed

My 2011 had a problem with the latch (hard to close after the dog ate the plastic pull-down handle, which got stuck in the latch probably). Pulled the latch apart, used some WD40, etc., still a problem. Left it alone; it didn't fix itself. Later I went after it hard with WD40 and it works...

2017 Drivers seat is so uncomfortable

Love the car, hate the seats. Ford must have the worst seats in the industry. Jeep Grand Cherokee seats are really comfy, at least the years that Mercedes was involved. Not sure about the Fiat Jeeps. Make sure you bend the head rests backwards. I removed mine, put them in a vise, and bent the...

‘08 Bad bump steer after lift

Isn't bump steer the result of not enough toe-in? Maybe castor, as suggested, but driving perfectly straight and then twisting off on a bump sounds like not enough toe-in. If they got the factory spec's "perfect", it still might not be right. This should be easy to do yourself btw... give a tiny...

Thanks for explaining the options for doing this. Knowing the choices is better than being told "no".

    Gas gauge inaccurate

Brand new, my gauge is wrong. When it reads empty, I have six gallons left. While some engineer might think that is clever, to pester me to get gas sooner, it just means I have to sit in annoyance until the next gas station, which will probably be 5 gallons. Yea, I watch the odometer, but it is...
