    cold air intake sensor

    these things add a little bit of timing by making the intake air temp look like it is colder. By leaning the mixture and increasing the timing via a tune you will do alot better. Matt R

    if you cycle the computer on and off and it fixes the issue the i highly doubt it is a sensor... maybe a bad computer. Not sure where the crankshaft position is but it would be around the crankshaft in the front (behind the lowest pulley)....

    Didn't think of the converter clutch shudder.... nice one.... yes if the fluid isn't fresh it could cause a shudder when the converter locks which you may be mistaking for a shift into OD.... Matt R

    no i'm saying the other sensors like the oxygen sensors in the exhaust would see the "dead air" coming from the cylinders not getting fuel and richen all the other cylinders. I have thought about this in depth and there are centain scanarios that it would work but it is not as easy as...

    on my origional setup only the front cats had 02 sensors behind them. I could have just removed the rear cats and never changed anything else and not thrown a code. Only the cats with sensors behind them matter from the computer's perspective. Matt R

    yeah if you get rid of the 4 factory cats for some high flow it will be loud..... you could try taking off the rear cats if they aren't being monitored by the rear O2 sensors like mine was....

    i don't know what to tell you then.... check your U joints. it's just wierd that it only does it in OD... or maybe that is the only driveshaft speed you can feel it would explain that. Matt R

    i have thought about this for a variable displacement setup, but it causes major issues with the computer and it dumps fuel to the other cylinders because the oxygen sensors see the lean cylinders and tries to richen up the rest. Matt R

    just trace the wire back to the reverse bulb that isn't the ground. Start at the socket.

    It just sounds like the issue to me but it could be a fractured drum or some other hard part failure. A sprag is sometimes called a roller clutch. it only allows a drum to spin one direction. Alot of times if you hit something hard enough in the drivetrain the sprag will be the first to go...

    take to the local trans shop..... i think it probably broke the sprag from the hard jolt from the lockup. The longer you drive it like that the damage will be done..... Matt R

    when it is cold pop the hood before you start it... have someone start the truck. put your hand around the engine cover that says 5.4 triton. When the fan engages and starts making noise you will feel extra air blowing over the engine in that area. Matt R

    could be something in the trans binding. does the truck nose over at all during the shift? if it only does it in OD it has to be the trans....

    what about the 6 liter? with some good head studs they can make alot of power bone stock and hold up. i think it is a bit smaller and lighter. Matt R

    removing the cats may actually hurt performance unless they are clogged. a completely stock engine actually needs a little backpressure to run properly. lots of cat-back kits available... no aftermarket y pipes without cats though... Matt R

    Are you sure it's not your engine fan kicking on and off..... the clutch does this when the temps drop because the silicone fluid in the viscous clutch gets thick just like Barbie's boobies..... If the rpms aren't changing and your hear a sound that seems to come and go like a whining wind...
