Towing Advice Please - Considering Aftermarket Modifications

i completely agree. I had overlooked that entirely; it is a complicating factor in planning the tow setup.

Towing Advice Please - Considering Aftermarket Modifications

thanks, but this one I cannot take credit for. I bought it at 96k 14 months ago. on the other hand, I did a couple of years of research before I found one equipped like I wanted, and in the condition I wanted. so there's that. as to whether I know of what I speak or not, here's some...

Towing Advice Please - Considering Aftermarket Modifications

since I don't have one of the newer ones, I am (obviously I thought) either talking about my 2nd Generation or just generally. Why would I be talking about a new truck? I get the OP has one, which I was why I tried to be general in my recommendations. I have no clue, because I have done no...

    285/70r17s on stock suspension

I've got almost the same - 285/75/17 Terra Grapplers with no issues, on an 04 4x4 XLT SSV.

Towing Advice Please - Considering Aftermarket Modifications

PS. I'm not saying you advocated a WDH costing 4 grand. I just ran across one looking for them and I was shocked. I would never have believed a WDH could cost that much.

Towing Advice Please - Considering Aftermarket Modifications

almost agree. gauges are essential, and improved suspension, brakes, etc. are a must as is a WDH. However, when it comes to cooling, you are essentially advocating a 'wait and see' approach that gambles on ... what? if we do it your way, we load up and go and then find out we're overheating...

Towing Advice Please - Considering Aftermarket Modifications

absolutely do not skip on the radiator cooler. towing does make the power plant run harder, and thus hotter. don't take the chance of burning up an engine. I would strongly advise a trans cooler as well, for the same reason. Hell, if i was doing this, I'd add an external engine oil cooler as...

    Questions about my ssv model

FWIW i did exactly this in my 04 SSV. I was surprised to find the shoulder belts already in place behind the D pillar interior trim; all i had to do was thread them through the slots in the trim.

    more header questions

no, they are not. I have no interest in a high-horsepower, high RPM application. so shorty headers are in fact, the way to go. for me. unfortunately, that's as far as I've gotten in my research. there are so many posts of satisfied customers with the same power plant and driveline configuration...

    more header questions

I've been researching because I intend to put shorty headers on my 04 5.4L XLT SSV At this point, I'm pretty discouraged. the more I look, the more it seems the right combination of brands, materials, coatings, pipe diameters, cats, mufflers, cross pipes and chickens sacrificed at the new moon...

    New head unit install

not the point. I don't want bureaucrats controlling my life anytime, anywhere, anyhow. I'm sure not going to reward them by buying their crap. feel free to keep your "tin foil" aspersions to yourself. I have heard it before. my life, my car, my money.

    New head unit install

unless you're buying "made in screwistan" junk, you can know that in advance. The manual will specify that somewhere. It can be hard to find, but it will in be in there. that's what I meant when I said I found out by "accident" - i was reading the online manual when i found it. the "accident"...

    Anyone Running 34's W/O Rubbing?

no lift. as I said, 285/75/17 on an 04 XLT 4WD SSV. no rubbing at full lock either direction. no cutting necessary. I will adjust speedo when I install the tuner, tomorrow.

What is the purpose of the flip-up tailgate window?

you should edit your post to something along the lines of "... a couple hundred miles west of LA... maybe NW... or NE... or just generally south..." don't want to give ATF nazis any more of a head start than they're getting from the NSA tap on your GPS. just sayin' ...

    New head unit install

thanks for your fast response. however, I'm sorry, I should have been more clear: by " aftermarket disabler disablers..." I include any and all wire bypass. I am looking for a radio that does not include that feature to begin with.

What is the purpose of the flip-up tailgate window?

I use mine as the escape hatch it was meant to be when zombies, or "mostly peaceful" protesters surround the car; so i can surround them with my weapons (which I since all lost in a boating accident).

    New head unit install

off topic... I started with crutchfield and only accidentally discovered that many new head units include a disable feature. apparently, you have to stop the car, put the parking brake on, and trans in park to do anything more than change the station. maybe even put it in the garage, remove the...

    tire jack tools

sorry for this - the Edit button is missing. anyway, apparently whoever I was responding to deleted his post. If I remember right, he was objecting to my OP because he thought I should go look at ebay or amazon.

    33" in spare tire location

sorry, no. Gen 2 - I should have specified - It's a 2004 XLT 4x4 SSV (police package). They were set at factory air pressure setting, per the install from Discount Tire. I'm too lazy to go outside and actually check it with my own gauge. somebody asked for pics, so I'm posting them even though...

    Newbie

yes, that's why I went back to them. I believe my truck was a supervisor vehicle, hence the vanity alloy wheel upgrade from the SSV stock steels. I will be selling the OEM alloys.
