I'm back again... I worked out a deal with JL on a 3rd gen Expedition EL stealthbox. I have a 2007 standard length model. The deal was basically that if this thing doesn't fit, I can send it back.
The other reason they are letting me do this is, if I can make very minor changes to what they...
This thing bolted right in. Not 100% positive why JL said it wouldn't fit but it definitely does. The only real problem I encountered was with the grille. The EL panel is a little bit longer giving the grille a bit more room to take up on the panel. It doesn't want to fit all that well on the...
The box containing the goodies
The goodies
The enclosure without the sub to make moving it around in the truck easier
The factory subwoofer enclosure and amplifier
What it looks like with it removed
Mocked up into place
Ready to be bolted into place
In place with the factory trim...
Hey all... As some of you may know, I worked out a deal with JL on a 3rd gen Expedition EL stealthbox. I have a 2007 standard length model. The deal was basically that if this thing doesn't fit, I can send it back.

If you're referring to me I'm actually trying to fit the 3rd gen box which is spec'd for EL models only into a non-EL model. And as we all know, they didn't make an EL 2nd gen anyway. But I also have reason to believe that the factory subwoofers are exactly the same from 2nd to 3rd gen. And if...
The only 2 reviews for the 3rd gen stealthbox on Crutchfield are 2nd gen owners that said with minimal modifications it'll fit. If the factory subwoofer enclosure is the same from 2nd to 3rd gens then I will hopefully have an answer as to whether or not the stealthbox will fit and will provide...
For anyone following this thread, I just wanted to show what the difference in quality projector reflector bowls vs what you typically get in the mass produced aftermarket projector headlight assemblies since I was browsing around today.
A factory Infinity reflector bowl on the left and a...
Can't give my input on that honestly... I've put some systems in that were pretty cramped and haven't had any issues. Hey... you got a warranty right? lol
Take a look at that YouTube video I posted about the bypass again. This is by far the easiest way I have found to do it.
The place to insert the straightened staple is the smaller rectangular hole above the pin you're trying to remove, or below depending on how you're looking at the...
I did too the first time I did it. Luckily I've had the ability to practice a few times and have bought two of these for myself.
Glad you got it in though. If you need any further help, feel free to ask.
The only systems I know of that actually use the VSS wire to determine if the vehicle is in motion are the factory nav systems. I don't believe there is any aftermarket system that uses the VSS wire to lock out certain functions.
Don't need to. The amp doesn't get that hot to begin with and the HD series have what they call "rollback protection". If the amp gets too hot, it slightly reduces power output until it is safe to increase it again.
You can see in this picture how it finally sits... thankfully I could make it work like this or getting to the adjustments panel would be a you know what.
These are from when I was test fitting right before finally deciding this is where it was gonna stay.
Both Kenwood and Alpine also use a VSS input. None of them actually require it. It's mostly just so that if the unit doesn't have GPS signal, it doesn't have to wait for signal to come back before it can keep tracking you. I never had it hooked up in my Thunderbird and I didn't have it hooked up...
Well, one of the ways you can tell is if the scosche harness has a wire that occupies the same slot on the factory harness. If it does, it is likely not the VSS.
If you have a digital multimeter, I could be wrong on this, the VSS should be an AC voltage signal. Obviously, you would have to...
tw1112 - Did you look up the process for the a/v and nav lockout bypass? You'll want to do that if you want to be able to adjust nav settings while driving.

A thread over on AVIC411 says that you can find the Grey/Black VSS wire in the radio harness on an 05. I'd...
I couldn't come up with anywhere that offered enough room and hid the amplifier well enough but allowed me to continue using the vehicle the way it was meant to. I ended up stuffing my HD900/5 into the dash under the radio. I left the factory subwoofer in place with plans on building a new box...
Last I checked, Pioneer and Kenwood did not have actual apps that can fully control their radios. The Sony one actually lets you do tuner and other radio functions over the iPad.
Jump straight to 4 minutes in the linked video below. They'll be pulling a 300C into the bay. It shows them doing...
Look into the PAC RP4-FD11... that's the harness I used. Kept my AUX input, my audio output from my DVD player, and gave me sub output for the factory sub.
The Sony should be in the low 100s cost-wise.
Yes. But why not go aftermarket when you can have all of those features with a new radio. Sony has a new unit that allows you to control it through bluetooth with an app. Most people doing iPad installs that wanna do it the easy way are using this radio.
I finally got around to doing the snorkel upgrade. Planned on it taking about 5-10 mins… took about 30-40 by the time I figured out what I actually had to do. The coolant line out of the bottom of the tank was keeping me from pushing the box as far out of the way as I wanted to. I pried the old...
