    Everything I have read on these... specific to the Expeditions... has said that light output with halogen bulbs is actually worse than stock, and adding HIDs to them makes it about the same as stock.

    I think the process you are thinking of is the DTC retrieval process for errors with the radio and climate control system. I do not know of any way to get the codes from the system without a scanner of some kind.
