    Replaced transmission in 2002 now 1 click and no crank!??????

    Check the starter solenoid on the passenger side firewall near the battery. if it is ok ck to see if power is getting to the starter from the solenoid[starter has a solenoid also] then make sure your engine will turn - maybe the trans is somehow holding the engine.

    98 EXPY's call for 5w30 although 5w20 is ok especially when it is cool out[nto very often here].Tom's explanation is spot on, the lifter/lash adjusters still use oil pressure to adjust valve lash. there have been problems with these going bad sometimes but not a real common occurence.

    I would double check for a vac leak first. then the most likely problem is the MAF sometimes cleanign will fix it but sometimes not.

    Sounds like a bad coil. you need to get a code[may taek a while] or find a tech with a scanner that does a power balance to isolate which one.

    Rough Idle codes say too lean

    check your intake hose from the t/b to the a/f. make sure it does not have any leaks or hoses not attached. IF that is ok use a pair of pliers to squeeze each vac hose shut or cap them off.

    Starter went out how hard is it to change

    The bolts on top are a little hidden. you need to use a curved wrench or the correct length of sockets and extensions.

    Stiff shifter

    I have a 98 4x4 5.4 e40d and the shifter is very stiff. I have removed the end at the trans and it moves freely so it is in the trans shift shaft/range sensor that is the problem. Has anyone else seen this?

    PI swap question

    you will need some way to rpogram the pcm for the new engine. unless you get the harness for the new engine, the newer engines have a different pcm pin usage and you can not just put the newer pcm with the old harness.

    sounds reasonable. when you pull the driveshaft you should be able to tell if the u joints are real bad by moving all around.

    Do the hoses get hot both to and from the heater core? If they do then it has to be in the plenum somewhere. if not there is a restriction of flow somewhere.

    x2 on the exhaust leak probably a broken stud. your engine does have lifters but they are a different style , but they function similiarly.

    You will need a thin wall socket to fit the19mm[ 3/4"] nuts with your rim. try a 12 pt 3/8 drive socket.

    Sounds like driveline to me. I would ck the wheel bearings/hubs and the u-joints. Is it a 4x4 with AWD? might be in the AWD system.

    I would replace the blend door they have a tendency to crack around the blend door motor shaft and then they dont open or close correctly. you have to pull the dash back, but if you put in the heater core it is the same work.

    x2 on the fluid change. if that does not do it then you need a tq conv.

    Battery Issues

    A simple test isto use a volt meterwith a good battery and eng idling should have at least 13.6v up to 14.4, if not alt is probably bad.
