Good stuff... has anyone actual proven visually that the HD radiator exists? I know there are two part numbers that eventually land you to one part number.... Just curious. I'm going to go for a bigass transmission cooler and brake control, then monitor accordingly.
Been doing a ton of...
BigFishFin - Digging up an old one here.... Did you ever experience high temps with the "Non HD radiator" that has only kinda been proven exists? I'm thinking about the DIY HD tow package as well... Perhaps with better than factory parts if you will.
I'm not going to lie.. I'd probably see if I could rent a 2509S and see how it pulled... It's a much better trailer than those small bunkhouses and buying another Expedition for the gears and radiator just doesn't seem worth it to me.
You would be right at the max trailer weight, but I'd bet...
Apex Nano 208BHS
Lance 2185
Rockwood Geo Pro - 20BHS
If you can handle it, there are tons of Hybrid options
I LOVE the Forrest River Rockwood Roo 21SS - but it's getting up there in weight.
I'll see if I can remember a few others we were looking at.
P.S. - we love the 2509S, and it think it would be a perfect fit for the properly outfitted Expedition. If you had a tow package, allllll day.... Without, you could probably give it a go, but as the posts above have said, apparently the 3.31s are pretty lazy, especially with a trailer...
We own this exact trailer and will be towing with an Expedition in the future. I've done a TON of research on this exact setup so here are a handful of things you may find useful.
1. I wouldn't do it without the tow package, but could be done. The tow package makes the overall trailer weight...
What is your actual payload rating via the yellow sticker?
Also, I'm not going to lie... I don't think I'd full time as a family of 6 in anything you'd want to drag all over the country with an Expedition. I guess if you start looking at this 30+ foot trailers maybe but your going to be on the...
Again, this is just from a ton of reading I've done on here and the F150 pages (don't own an EB yet) but "lugging" the engine seems to create the issue more frequently. Coolant flow is relatively low, while boost is high and turbos are running HOT. Bumping RPM increases flow, should drop the...
Seems some people are having more luck with bumping the RPM up to increase waterflow... additionally, I think I'd be looking to drop in a 180 or 170 T-stat if you tow a lot. (especially in large grade areas)
While in theory this doesn't fix a "max temp" issue I believe there are aftermarket...
Check out the app “Fuelly” I’ve been using it forever and you can add notes and such for each one... I track all the mileage on my old diesel truck with it. Makes me sad haha
I feel your pain.. it's hard to filter through them. So far the only way I've been able to tell is by looking through each units pictures. You should see the extra two buttons on the 4x4 and the stupid backup knob on the dash. It's frustrating to say the least... I wish everyone selling would...
Even in a 10sp? Seems like once it’s rolling it’s not a big deal and don’t you guys with 10speeds lock out a handful of gears anyway? Not to mention anyone bumping up in tire size is effectively knocking gearing down as well
I’m not disagreeing that the tow package isn’t ideal, just hard to...
So I’ve been digging and digging on this topic...
Honest question...
If I really don’t care about 3.73s, or 2 speed transfer case, sure as shit don’t need the fancy back up knob
why not just add a brake controller and if needed the radiator? It’s like $400 in parts
I think I would buy a 2500RL or 2600RB AND a Propride/Hensley hitch. That will eliminate 99% of the drama from a "sway" and control perspective. You'll be flirting with Max payload, especially with 4 adults in the rig but... you know...
Couch and dinette will sleep plenty of visitors.
All the stuff can be added, the one thing you want to watch for that's a "big ticket" item is the gearing. Not sure how much this matters in a 10 speed anymore, but 3.73s would be the preferred gearing.
why wouldn't you want to reconfigure the hitch? Is it not just a paperweight otherwise?
I wouldn't worry so much about weight distribution as I would be interested in sway control.
