My truck had the Rancho lift and a 3" body lift. That's also the Rancho skid plate up front.
Best part about running the rancho lift is that you can get the RS9000 adjustable shocks and the myride controller. Being able to dial in the ride from the drivers seat is fantastic.
There is a hidden mount that I know fits the 1st gens. I'm not sure if it fits the 3rd gen trucks.
I think that Warn makes it and it mounts where the tow hooks attach.
The original owner of my truck used captains chairs from a limited F150 super crew.
They only tilted forward half way. So that made it difficult to load large stuff. Seats from an excursion should fold flat.
I agree with above. There may just be a bad connection.
The abs system is more 'active' than the check engine light. If it's on, there is an active fault.
I'm assuming that the light wasn't on before you changed out the hubs.
What maintenance has been done and when? Filters and such can have an effect on mileage, as can sensors that are on their way out. A dirty mass air sensor can also effect mileage.
Something else to think about. I have a friend who tracks his mileage religiously, he swears that certain brands...
By far, the biggest change that I had after installing the edge, was the trans. It firmed up shifts and took away all that slipping. As we all know, slipping causes heat, and heat kills transmissions.
All you see from inside the cab is the little knob peeking out from under the dash.
The whole thing takes an hour or two to install.
The cool thing about the system is that you can actually use 2lo (not sure how useful it is, but it's cool)
The lever that goes in to the diff to actuate the center axle disconnect (# 24 - 25 above) will sometimes stick. It's a steel piece going in to an aluminium housing. Mine needed to be loosened up with a pair of channel locks and a can of WD40.
It could also be that the vacuum solenoid that...
Basically, you can only go to the lowest point of the truck that would cause a problem.
That point on a stock expy would probably be the ignition coils. That is a static level though. When you are fording a stream, etc. you could easily suck up water in to the intake that is splashed up...
Basically, you want to go from the trans line that comes out of the radiator, in to the cooler and then out of the cooler, back to the trans. They are really quite easy to plumb.
As for size, the bigger the better.
My answer would be 'of course'. I don't think that I would be happy with the way that it sounds, but it certainly could be done.
I think that an 8" bazooka would sound better, and not cost much more than what you want to spend.
If you do the gears first, the truck will feel like a rocket when you accelerate. (comparatively)
If you do a lot of highway driving, you'll definitely want to take the advice above and get that bigger rubber on asap.
If anyone is looking for an inexpensive head unit with nav, I stumbled across this.
Ford 2004-12 Direct Fit Multimedia+Navigation
Deal only lasts for the next 3 days.
I know nothing about these, other than the price is pretty damn cheap for a nav unit.
Here's a laugh.... Ford says that the differentials are 'lubricated for life' and NEVER need servicing.
The exact specs and quantities for the lube are in the manual. I used full synthetic fluids in the diffs, transfer case and transmission. Just make sure that if you have the limited slip...
I'm pretty sure that that info is buried deep in the manual somewhere.
Back in the days of the shift lever, you could just muscle it out of 4 lo, but now that everything is electronic, you need to take the pressure off of the gears to allow the transfer case to shift.
The easiest way to do it is to push the 4x2 button, then put the truck in reverse and roll backwards. While the truck is still rolling, shift the trans in to neutral. It should go in to 2wd.
If it doesn't go in to 2wd, you could have a transfer case motor problem. (very common)
I never did find any pocket style flares that fit the Expy.
The fronts are easy to find, as they are the same as the F150. But the rear ones need to be in 2 pieces to accommodate the rear door.
Mine (I think) were xenon blemished units. They came in a white box.
Be careful with generic a 'trans service'. Most of them just drain and refill the fluid. With all those miles on your truck, you want a full service, with a new filter and the correct Mercron V fluid.
As for the fuel filter, just about any place can do that.
I would get it up in the air and start checking every linkage and bushing in the front suspension. A small pry bar and a big set of channel locks are really the only things you'll need.
If a belt in the tire slipped, you should be able to see a 'squirm' in the tread when you spin the tire.
