Just in case the engineers at Ford ever want to know what their biggest fans want changed in future Expeditions, why don't we tell them a couple things that are irritating about our Expys that could be ironed out in future releases?
My biggest pain point is the foot activated lift gate. It...
Beauty. Were you able to install yourself or did you have someone do it?
I would always like a bigger screen up front if there's no lost functionality. It appears to be sold out on Canadian Amazon right now.
I've put nano-ceramic tint on every window (except the sun roof) and I highly recommend it! Don't put carbon tint on though; it won't have the UV and heat blocking properties.
We tow a 34' Airstream and the Expedition tows it like a champ! I wouldn't be too concerned with the exact towing and payload numbers, but do make sure you've got your hitch setup dialed in. I highly recommend CanAm RV in London, Ontario, no matter how far you'd have to drive.
It's worth...
That’s the thing, the brakes and lights still seem to work. But maybe it’s just a notice the cord is getting loose and could fall out.
I thought maybe the anti-sway mechanism would cease and that wouldn’t be immediately discernible.
Occasionally while towing our airstream, I get a notification on the dash that the trailer has been disconnecting.
When I pull over to check, the umbilical cord is still in place and all the lights are working properly.
I pull out and re-insert the umbilical cord, and I'm usually good to go...
I tow a 34' airstream, about 9000 lbs and don't like to go much above 65 even with a perfectly set up hitch system. The sway can start to become more than what I'm comfortable feeling at faster speeds.
In Canada, I go to Shell since their 91 octane has 0 ethanol. I've found about a 10% increase in fuel economy under normal driving conditions and 15% improvement when towing heavy loads.
I'd be interested to do this while I still have two on hand. Losing one is almost just a matter of time.
If you've tried it, do you know if these instructions will work with the current gen Expeditions...
That's a great use for the knob, but I haven't found I need to see my phone while driving when carplay is in use. I'd still like to see a pic when you get it working.
I'm a fan of the B&O compared to the systems I've had in other Fords, VWs, and Hondas. But the sound quality on satellite radio is simply awful; when I instead stream the same Satellite station from my phone to the sound system through USB, the quality is massively improved.
Obviously the solution is not just a powerful vehicle, I stated you’ll need the right hitch setup to tow confidently for a trailer that size. But power is the main factor in ensuring you’ll be able to accelerate while climbing a mountain, as an example.
If a job can safely be done with a half...
As mentioned above, weight and aerodynamics are much more important considerations than length, although length is indicative of weight. You do need the right hitch setup to tow safely; we had ours done at CanAm RV, internationally renowned hitch experts. Give Andy there a call if you need...
That’s way overkill. We tow a 34’ airstream with our Max Platinum. Airstream is different though due to the aerodynamics.
To OP, you’d have to be careful on the prairies in a strong side wind but otherwise would be safe if your hitch setup is correct. Power would not be an issue with your Expy.
Definitely get weight distribution. It will be safer and more enjoyable to drive. You also won’t have to worry about it if you upgrade to a larger trailer someday.
That’s interesting about locking out higher gears. We have a 34’ airstream and it’s so aerodynamic, the Expy sometimes jumps up to 10th while towing. I have found that the fuel economy gets worse when I’m gears 7-8 than 9-10 regardless.
How can you burn less fuel per mile by making the engine...
The recommended PSI on the Platinum door sticker with stock 22" tires is also 39 PSI. That's what I've been running +/- 1PSI without issue since October on our 2019 Max Platinum.
I tow a 34’ airstream with our 2019 expedition max platinum and I’ve experienced very little sway while on the road. If you continue to have issues, give the towing experts at Can Am RV in London Ontario a call. People go see them from all over the world for towing help. Ford even sent engineers...
I’ve been considering selling my 22” platinum rims to get a 20” or 22” set in black instead of chrome. What could I reasonably expect to get for them? The tires have about 4,000 miles on them now and I’m near Toronto.
I love the 360 degree camera for help parking such a large vehicle but I hate that the video can't be recorded so I wouldn't need an aftermarket dash cam.
