BlueCruise includes a camera mounted on the dash just to the left of the screen (it watches your eyes to be sure you're looking at the road when the system is active). I assume this is why Ford has said it wont be a feature-add in the future.
Yes, I'm sure BMW has their own major struggles with parts. I was mainly reporting the observation made to me by my dealer/broker that the *shipping and delivery* of the cars is uniquely poor with Ford right now, and doesn't really seem to be an industry-wide problem (like the chip and other...
+1 on this advice. No matter how long and frustrating you think it might be, it will probably be longer and more frustrating.
You must be one of the very last '22s on order. I wouldn't be surprised if your order got moved to a '23. Either way it will be a while before you find out anything.
The crazy thing to me is that I'm working with a sales/leasing broker who works with every car manufacturer, and this delivery delay craziness is pretty much limited to Ford. BMW SUVs made in South Carolina reliably show up 3-4 days after being released from the plant, etc. There is really...
Just like the supply chain of parts *into* the plant is totally broken, the supply chain *out* of the plant is also broken. They don't have enough rail cars coming into the plant, they don't have enough workers to load cars, the train companies don't have the capacity to move railcars like they...
Agreed it is a bad time to buy a new car right now.
However, I think most independent analysts think that things will not clear for *at least* 2-3 years. You can already tell with Ford that they are preemptively deleting literally any feature they think they can get away with for the '23 model...
That is certainly their goal. Up-sell you into the higher trims (more profit) by limiting available features. In another model year or two the tech will filter down into the lower trim levels as an option.
The order bank is closed right now. Orders will open for the '23s sometime this summer. Some say June, others say August. But even then I would assume at least 10 months to get the car. By most accounts, the supply chain and operations issues (especially at Ford but also GM) are going to get...
Yes, that's what I was thinking. I was contemplating trying to buy something off the lot in the next few weeks and then order a '23 - with the idea that I'd basically swap into the car I really wanted next May or so when the '23s start rolling out.
Two problems with this so far: (1) the pickins...
Welcome to the club. I have almost exactly the same story, except I ordered my Expy Max 302a in mid-November. In production 3/23, now in a chip hold ever since. For a while Ford would offer ETAs to the dealer, but now they just say "no ETA". I agree the ETA means nothing.
Ford is actually...
I think your dealer's assessment is correct. There are just so many points of failure in supply chains for things like automobiles, and with China shutting down again, any thoughts we'd see much improvement this year is fantasy.
Personally I think the auto manufacturers are going to have to...
Are you in a chip hold? Can you check your window sticker? That will tell you whether you have features deleted.
There are people (very very small number!) getting their finished vehicles and posting about it in the 22 Expedition FB group. They report that all features (minus the auto...
My read is that the vehicles already "in production" - built but chip hold, or maybe even scheduled - aren't impacted. I keep checking my window sticker and although they update it about once a week, nothing but the date stamp has changed since early March. So I think my car -- if I ever get...
As I begin the fifth month of waiting for my Limited Max (and about three weeks into an off-site chip hold), I do wonder whether any of the last 18 months will result in changes to the way that auto manufacturers plan their production. Most of the top executives have been raised in an era where...
To be clear, the photo posted above is from May 2021. I'm sure the situation is similar this year, but that's an old (viral) photo.
My Limited Max (ordered 11/10/21) is "built" (3/24/22) and now stashed somewhere in some parking lot in Kentucky, awaiting parts. Argh.
I agree with @apex96, with the only caveat that resale value may be better with the HD Tow because the ability to tow 9000 lbs is a pretty big differentiator.
It's a little bit frustrating that the interior images are still computer generated. Better than nothing, but they need to get some of these things built and modeled for us!
Blue Cruise looks great, and for long road trips should be awesome.
In my Volvos the "lane keeping" system (they call it 'Pilot Assist') and the stop-and-go adaptive cruise control also cuts the fatigue of long distance driving tremendously — it's not as good as the full self-steering of Blue...
We won't know for sure until these vehicles arrive in the wild, but my understanding is that the HD Tow Package still has the same cameras and views.
Personally, I still went with HD Tow. I've had the park assist option in my last couple cars and have never used it except to play around with it.
