This guy seemed fair and made some good points, but ...
Yeah, I about spit my coffee out with that one. This was the only review I have ever seen that calls the Expy out for being "underpowered".
I am curious about this issue as it seems random. I have an '18 XLT Max just over 12k miles and I had to go out and drive around a bit while paying attention.
While the shifting is not instantaneous (no electronic shifter is are they?) there was no 2-3 second delay. Every time I shift from...
Christopher,
A) use TOW/HAUL when towing.
B) I have an '18 MAX XLT and it really likes 65 to 75. that seems like its sweetspot. here in S.Dakota we can go 80 on the interstate but I do see a slight penalty in MPG if i go above 75 or so.
I drive in Eco mode almost exclusively because I prefer getting into taller gears sooner rather than later and I drive like an old man anyway. However, while I like the shifting parameters in Eco mode, I really have not seen any discernible improvement in MPG. As mentioned earlier, Sport is a...
Ditto to this.
As a previous Suburban owner, I was blown away when I first test drove a Navi with 3.5EB.b While I passed on the Navi ($$$) I ended up with my current '18 Expi XLT and it's ride is luxury vehicle smooth under virtually every circumstance.
This!!! two weeks after buying our '18 we parked in the lot of a cell phone company. came out and fob did not work. got in with code and truck recognized the fob inside and we started it and drove straight to dealership (couple blocks ... small town). anyway, service replaced battery in fob...
12k on my '18 Max XLT. Mostly city driving with occasional 80 mph jaunts on the highway. My average is 18.8 (but I drive like an old geezer).
Remember this adage: It's Eco or Boost, can't have both.
and remember, on these forums you tend to hear mostly bad stuff. no one ever starts a thread with
"guess what, my ride started right up and drove great on the way to work today. Just thought I would let you know.."
I for one never trust the posted height. When they repave or resurface the driveway or parking lot, I have never seen anyone remeasure and post new restrictions, therefore it may or may not be even remotely accurate. Many a time my copilot has exited and watched as I slid through. It may look...
I believe the thinking is if you are going to put in Sport then you are more likely to want to drive it like you stole it. Therefore, it defaults to 4A so you have better traction to get those amazing GT like 1/4 mile times.
We made the same trip last fall, left from Yuba City area, over Donner Pass, Through NV, hit Salt Lake City and kept going.
I didn't move out of CA, I escaped …
anyway, nice drive. you get a little of everything as far as geography goes. Take your time and enjoy the views and talk to some...
This thread has grown legs of its own and is traveling quite far afield. But since we are there … it has become the hallmark of our modern culture that we automatically assume that anyone who disagrees with our own perspective or suppositions is either ignorant, stupid or a drooling caveman. I...
Driving habits would be the biggest impact. Wifey's '18 Max is getting 17.5 in mixed but she drives very conservatively. Average goes down noticeably the rare times I get to drive.
Her = Eco
Him = Boost
Can't have both at the same time.
That being said, if you are driving conservatively...
Remember too that the by product of better efficiency is that we get far more HP per drop of fuel than we used to. I had a 1996 F250 with the big 460. it was the ultimate Ford gasser at that point. That monster had a whopping 245 HP and 400 ft lbs of torque, oh and don't forget about 11 MPG...
Oddly enough, we did the exact switch. my wife had a Pacifica Platinum and loved it. but we moved to South Dakota and the Pacifica was horrible in snow. spent half the winter sitting in the driveway because it was stuck. By the end of the winter we traded it in on an '18 Expedition Max XLT...
So much of vehicle purchasing is personal preference and only an idiot would argue about why you should or should not "like" something. So I am not going to try to convince you one way or another.
But I will say that I have owned three vehicles with the 3.5 EB,
an F150 that I traded in at 190k...
10 Speed - We have had zero issues with the 10 speed so far. Always seems to be in the right gear and no "hunting". We don't use ours for towing though … Got a truck for that.
4WD - It was snowing pretty good when we test drove and purchased ours in North Dakota and we immediately drove south...
