A/c systems freeze up for 2 reasons-
The evaporator coil is too cold due to an improper charge or bad expansion valve/orifice
- or-
Insufficient air flow across the evaporator coil, usually due to dirty evaporator coil, bad blower motor, or bad cabin air filter. Closing all the ducts can also...
Very common for older a/c systems to develop leaks. If enough refrigerant escapes, the compressor will not come on and you will feel warm air blowing out.
Any leaks should be identified and repaired prior to recharging the system.
There are also blower motors, blend doors, switches, and many...
Improper voltage on any late model vehicle can cause chaos.
You mentioned that you used your voltmeter between the battery and the cable. Were you checking for amperage or voltage on that test?
Check your battery voltage with ground cable disconnected and let it sit overnight. Read it again...
You could replace the factory switch with an aftermarket sensor for a gauge, but you would have a constant oil pressure warning if you didn't terminate the factory wires.
You could install a T fitting, keep the factory switch and add the aftermarket gauge/sending unit.
You could replace the...
I've had good results reaching that top bolt from the front of the a/c compressor. Use a couple of long extensions and keep the ratchet out in the open.
The oil spray bar is a little different from what I'm thinking about, but cool. It seems like a piston squirter setup could be hijacked for that in lieu of the spray bar?
On the rear of the heads, there are what looks like npt pipe plugs that I suspect are the head oil galleries. I would pull...
Nice write up. In my experience I have found 2 types of 5.4 owners. One type will immediately address anything the motor needs. They usually have good results.
The other kind will keep driving through the tapping until the oil pressure light comes on, and when it won't run at all they throw a...
I've searched around but couldn't find this. I'm getting to know my 2012 Limited with the factory remote start fob in addition to the fob on the key.
I can lock it, start it, but it shuts off when I unlock it. Is there a way to avoid the restart?
My owners manual doesn't address it, I might be...
I can't think of any engine swap that is free of issues/challenges.
I would go back with the same motor, new or used just depends on your budget.
If you're currently running flex fuel, a replacement engine won't care as long as you retain your original fuel system and programming.
If you're...
Try both keys. When you start it with a mykey you will get a mykey message. If one of your keys is an administrative key you won't get that message. An admin key can be used to change the programming of a mykey.
There's no way to visually determine what type of key it is, all done with programming.
Got my engine back and installed. Found that the passenger exhaust manifold and intake manifold are different. Everything pertaining to the long block is a direct swap.
Contribution test is not the right way to check compression. It can only tell you if a cylinder is not acting correctly (contributing its fair share). Defective plug, coil, cam lobes, roller followers, hole in piston, all look the same to a contribution test. It's great for pointing out where...
I've got one mykey for my 2012, nothing else. From what I've found looking into this, the fix is-
Download Forscan-
Buy new key from Amazon/Ebay
Buy obd adapter for Forscan
Program new key as an admin key
I'm assuming your model is going to be something along those lines.
It's possible that without a cabin air filter you've got some crud on your evap coil. If any of that stuff is organic, bacteria and nature will take it from there. I would try to get a scope into the coil to look at it.
Drain issues usually result in a wet floorboard on most vehicles.
If I...
