    E-fans and CAI 5.4 2v

Quick update on MPG increase after the intake and e-fan install. Bad news: I haven’t seen a discernible increase in MPG so far, because - Good news: I can’t keep my foot out of it. The throttle response is significantly better, the 5.4 spools up quicker, and couple that with the throaty...

03 5.4L valve cover bolt specs

Not sure, but one method is for you to pull out your tap and die set, grab the gauge in there and that should give you at least the TPI. Then test fit some of your dies until you get the correct diameter. It’ll be the metric kit.

    Not so Good Vibrations

Helluva quest to get this figured out! I can see how a shop would’ve tossed their hands in the air a while ago, and just tried to sell you a new $100k Expy instead of figuring out the problem. Nice work! Stay at it!

    Raining coolant

Coolant in the valley can come from the o-ring failure at the back of the water pump (search for the water pump mod - very common), or your intake manifold could be leaking, particularly if you’re seeing streaks down into your valley. Either way, take the pissed-off squirrel’s advice. He knows...

    P2195 after catalytic converter install…

Reading over your original issue, I think the O2 sensor may be a symptom, but not the problem. Why did you have to replace the cat(s)? Physically clogged, as evidenced by a back pressure test? Guts gone? Or were they smoked from too much fuel being dumped into them? That could be for a multitude...

    P2195 after catalytic converter install…

FYI - you can access all of the O2 sensors, but removing the inner-fender / wheel well liner is necessary. However, that only takes exactly 5 minutes. Like an idiot, I’ve timed myself doing it. The trick is you just have to find all of the screws that secure the inner fender - some are hidden...

Intermittent vibration at 70-75 MPH? - SOLVED!

Surprising to me as well. Seems having the front driveshaft rotating 100% of the time would create excessive wear and tear. It would be interesting to figure out if my ‘14 Super Duty does the same thing.

Intermittent vibration at 70-75 MPH? - SOLVED!

SOLVED! Replaced the front drive shaft U-joints, and sure enough, the U-joint at the transfer case was smoked. Test drive up to cruising speed was without incident - smooth as glass. Thanks fellas for all of your input! Pete

Intermittent vibration at 70-75 MPH? - SOLVED!

That’s a great idea, and could help troubleshoot the other components as well. Wheelies in a Bronco? Well done! Thank God none of this internet stuff was around back then, or I may have had quite the different trajectory than now o_O

Intermittent vibration at 70-75 MPH? - SOLVED!

Great feedback men. Looks like swapping out the front driveshaft u-joints is the plan. I may be able to get to it tomorrow afternoon. If so I’ll report back.

Intermittent vibration at 70-75 MPH? - SOLVED!

I swapped out the main drive shaft u-joints, and took it for a test drive. No change to the vibration above 70 MPH. I still have new u-joints for the front drive shaft, but was troubleshooting to see if the main drive shaft u-joints did the trick. Nope. Question: does the front drive shaft...

HELP!!! DIY 100% 71 yr. old disabled Vet ,looking to replace brittle vacuum hoses. Ford discontinued hoses per dealer, advice what to do..

The trick to all those vacuum lines, when searching for OEM replacements, is the nomenclature. The call out names are very deceiving. I don’t recall what the names of the exact parts were that I ordered / received, but what the particular vendor called them was all over the place. I know that...

HELP!!! DIY 100% 71 yr. old disabled Vet ,looking to replace brittle vacuum hoses. Ford discontinued hoses per dealer, advice what to do..

In the past year, with enough searching, I was able to replace all the vacuum hoses with OEM when I installed the new engine. Sources included: Dealership Amazon eBay Tasca Ford Parts Giant Rock Auto Good luck.

Intermittent vibration at 70-75 MPH? - SOLVED!

Great tip and great feedback! I have new Motorcraft u-joints on hand, so I’ll just swap those out. And appreciate the shout out, working on helicopters for 8 years definitely gets you in-tune to all things spinning / rotating. Flying them for 18 more years even more so!

Intermittent vibration at 70-75 MPH? - SOLVED!

I’ve been chasing a vibration that has developed in the past month, at speeds of 70-75 MPH. I briefly mentioned it in @whtbronco thread, but didn’t want to derail his quest. I first suspected drivetrain, as it seemed centrally located in the vehicle, not one of the corners. The tires are new...

Thinking of supercharging the 5.4 2v

This kit advertises 8-9# of boost. And it looks like a learned a new term: hypereutectic. Is that what I mistakenly understood as “hyper-silica” pistons? Like I said, plenty of research to do. I have custom tuned several vehicles over the years, and recognize the value, safety, and longevity...

Thinking of supercharging the 5.4 2v

Just talked to the engine manufacturer. Definitely not forged pistons, but “hyper-silica” cast pistons. They said they’re better than the stock cast. A blower would void their 3 year / 100k mile warranty. I did supercharge my stock ‘05 5.4 3v about 13 years ago, and she’s still running...

Thinking of supercharging the 5.4 2v

Great question. There is copious amounts of research I’d have to do before executing a plan like this blower. Currently, I’m chasing a slight drivetrain vibration that has developed over 70 MPH, so yeah, I’d have to ensure everything else is locked in tight before throwing more power (read...

    Cruse Control

When I took possession of my ‘03 EB last year the cruise was INOP. I went through meticulous troubleshooting and it works like a charm now. Things to check: 1. Ensure you have functionality of your steering wheel cruise control switches. The contacts can get dirty and cease functioning. I think...

    E-fans and CAI 5.4 2v

Hey I did spend my first 8 years in the Army enlisted as Blackhawk mechanic / crew chief, and been turning wrenches since before you were with the bigs ;) I still need to take all that time and sit down with the FSDO to get my A&P! It’ll cut down my costs owning the 310:eek:

    E-fans and CAI 5.4 2v

Your assessment is likely accurate; hence, the “custom” fans. The aluminum shrouds provided with the fans were spot on, but that’s where the custom stopped. The OD of the fans would have made cutting necessary, regardless of clocking them. But great thought!

    E-fans and CAI 5.4 2v

Finished product. Fired it up, ran through the initialization with the controller, and it’s a first time go. Haven’t logged many miles yet to look at MPG increase, but definitely more pep from the skinny pedal. And much better maintenance access, as well as an overall cleaner engine bay.
