    Letter to My Dealer

I am really not surprised they could not fix something as simple as a power mirror. These new cars rely on CANBUS for everything. The wiring and the signals are dispersed all over a car. A short or miswiring in an unrelated circuit can interfere with the data flow. It is like finding a bad bulb...

oxigen sensor extenders, do they work?

If your cat is clogged maybe a better solution would be to try to burn it clear with an additive?

Timing belt or rebuilt engine or new vehicle

There are no timing belts. Only timing chains, valve timing phasers and valve rockers/lifters to be concerned about. If you have a rattle at start up, turn off your HVAC including the defroster mode, entirely. The compressor clutch can make a similar noise to a timing rattle.

    Annoyed by a break in

Unless they actually opened the door the alarm won't go off. You would need an ultrasonic or passive infrared sensor inside to sense an intrusion like that.

    Annoyed by a break in

Have the glass replaced and the track inspected for visible damage. If it does not track properly and quietly have them submit a supplemental claim to your insurer.

    Dealership Fraud???

every state has a licensing division for automobile mechanics and dealerships. I would contact them about this. they are endangering the public.

Rough idle and rpm drop 2001 Expedition EB 4.6

I will add that if I run out of things to do, I may have my local shop do a smoke test because I really don't trust all the crappy hoses on the manifold vacuum of these old trucks.

Rough idle and rpm drop 2001 Expedition EB 4.6

I have had a somewhat similar battle. (without lean codes) . I did find that the EVAP Purge hose from the manifold to the Purge Valve (on the firewall) was crusty and probably leaking vacuum. I would replace it just to rule it out. Also check your intake between throttle body and MAF for any...

Anyway to buy a SSV new?

I saw recently (don't recall where) an aftermarket column shifter modification that replaces the console shifter in the later trucks. It was for the new gen truck where the center console has a desk top that flips over the console shifter (which retracts) so that you can continue to drive. You...

    2001 Expy new problem

It seems to run fine with the purge hose changed and the ECU KAM keep alive memory, erased. I have a known battery problem , starts fine, but has a low voltage after cranking, indicated on FORSCAN . I suspect that low voltage is corrupting the KAM , on fuel trim, and I am also battling the AC...

    2001 Expy new problem

I am happy I don't have to tow it in for a repair. I will drive it this weekend and get it settled in and burn off some of the old fuel and replenish.

    P0500 VSS Fault

I have the P0500 code suddenly. Since the speedo works and the VSS test in FORSCAN shows it works, I suspect it is due to a weak battery on startup. Did you get a new battery since 2017? Did the problem go away?

    2001 Expy new problem

Got my FORSCAN going today. First checked out my 2013 and apart from my ABS problem in that vehicle, the engine appears fine. So I went to look at my 2001 with the drive-ability problem and discovered a DTC that the purge valve circuit was opened or shorted. It was still stuttering away like...

App based OBDII scanner for trans temperature

OK I have answered most of my own questions. I bought this USB adapter and downloaded the free FORSCAN for Windows. It seems to be installing properly in my small 32 bit Toshiba notebook. I don't think I need the extended version yet. Tomorrow I will start with my ABS codes in my 2013 and then...

    2001 Expy new problem

Still working this problem. I replaced the filthy suspicious vacuum hose from manifold to the Purge Valve. Reset the ECU I think, but still having problem. Checked with propane and the leak is gone. I looked the crusty hose over and could not see a definite crack, but happy to get that out of...

Dealers unable to find/fix issue with suspension under warranty

You might check to see if the spare tire is 1) Fully inflated and 2) The cable jack that draws it up to the chassis is snug. Sometimes best to snug it up and then inflate if the valve is accessible. While you are at it, are the jack and tools properly stowed? Remove any bowling balls and non...

App based OBDII scanner for trans temperature

I am fixing to buy FORSCAN immediately and have some questions as to my platform: 1) 2001 and 2013 Expedition's with drivability problems and ABS problems 2) Win10 Toshiba Laptop Intel Atom 32 bit OS (note 32 BIT not 64 Bit) What versions of FORSCAN are recommended and what OBDII interface? I...

    2001 Expy new problem

It seems that in my area people are buying new cars and crashing them soon after, so we have a plethora of "production shops" that would rather not deal with repainting an entire car , taking it down to bare metal, and R&I all the attendant parts. They are making a fast buck totaling new cars...

    2001 Expy new problem

I hate to give it up. I have owned it since 2003 when still in warranty and I have changed oil every 3000 miles (now 97K). Have full maintenance records. It handles and runs great, or will when I sort this out. But it needs paint especially roof and hood. I bought a 2013 so proceeds will go into...

    2001 Expy new problem

Thanks; I am going to cobble up a fix for that hose tomorrow while waiting for a replacement. I think I am onto something. I used to have a vacuum gauge somewhere. Need to check my garage, ..

    2001 Expy new problem

I do hope it is not a problem with that CAT's as that would be a very expensive repair on a car that I have put a ton of money into tires (Michelin Defenders) refurbished OEM wheels and lots of suspension (OEM spec) parts. We today I went out to check the TPS and had a lot of interruptions...

Dealers unable to find/fix issue with suspension under warranty

A lot of Youtubers attach a camera under the car to observe the suspension and driveline under normal road conditions. Putting the truck on a lift has much different geometry than driving on the roadway. You might crawl under with a flashlight and check for play in the driveline components and...

What makes you think that a vehicle that has operated normally in weeks and months past suddenly has a clogged CAT?

Gonna test the TPS voltages in-situ. It seems I could waste hours with stuck bolts firing the parts cannon at the TPS.

    2001 Expy new problem

I am using a Scanguage II which is primarily a hyper-miler tool. It will read out a lot of parameters and codes and PID's , but you have to write script for it to pull out specific Mode%06 data. Because of past COP and plug problems I have it focused on misfire codes, for which none are coming...
