Early 90's 'Fox Body' Mustangs have a air silencer. Just about everyone took them off. I don't remember a huge gain. It did sound cool, when you stomped on it. A slight timing advance( I think 2-3 degrees), really woke it up also. The rumor was the original 5.0l HO, was under rated and really...
Ford designed a specialty tool, called a cheese wedge. It locks the timing chain in place. It allows for removal of just the phaser, without taking off the timing cover. It cuts labor down to a couple of hours(from over 11). Locking the pin is hack mechanic work. A shop 'familiar' with the 5.4l...
My 15yr old briggs & Stratton lawn mower has the original plug. Usually starts 1 pull and never misses a beat. A scored cylinder could be a bad ring, gas washing or debris. 120K in 4yrs is 30K a year. That's 6 oil changes per year(not likely). My guess it wasn't changed every 5,000mi.
Certified Pre Owned, translation - It was bought new and serviced at the dealer, it's being sold from. Most likely an ex-lease, dealer loaner, or dealership/company vehicle.
When I was 16, my Dad started to buy me a different Craftsman tool/set every Christmas. My tool box has a nice selection to tools. He got tired of me borrowing his.
Hold your trip reset while turning on the ignition. It will put odometer into test mode. Press trip reset to scroll to FP(fuel pressure) and DTC(dianostic trouble codes).
The Mustang and Expedition engines are similar in design, but not interchangeable and internally different. One designed for performance, one for towing and low rpm driving.
The 5.4l 3v was named 'one of the worst' engines(along with the Cadillac Northstar). Google it. Vehicles with it have a lower resale and plenty of issues(some say none). Watch on YouTube, a guy called CAR WIZARD. His channel is informative on the 5.4l. FORDTECHMAKULOCO, has many videos about...
Have it checked by a shop. They will know what to check. Curbs are the kiss of death to front ends. I had a friend do $2700 damage after hitting one at less than 30mph. There was damage to the rim/tire, tierod, lower ball joint and bent the engine cradle/sub frame. It took the Chevy dealer 3...
You shouldn't ever have to take your eyes off the road. This 'knob' shifter must be cheaper. They are even on the the GT500(with paddles), but still soo lame.
The interior light is on the same fuse. I had a town car, that the rear windows stopped working. They were stuck and worked after assisting them to move.
Ford supposedly upgraded the chain tensioners, to the 'older' trouble free design. Ford also fixed the cam phaser problem, around 2008. It's interesting the problem is back in the EcoBoost. GM and MOPAR still using push rod, conventional valvetrain.
They company I work for have a fleet of E450 superduty with the 6.8l V10. A few of the motors went(around150K-200k mi) . They all started to make that same noise. It only gets worse over time. I believe it's a combination of poor design, bad maintenance and running 1-2qts low at times. They...
A Dealer Trade...NEVER! Someone being paid peanuts, to drive a long trip, during break-in. I am a firm believer of, how a vehicle is broken in, determines if it will have issues. I have owned many brand new vehicles and never had a engine issue. A co-woker had a nearly new 2011 F-150 with...
Does you Expy have air suspension? They 'maintain' air with the key off. Normally they shouldn't kick on much or at all. I owned a 1999 Town Car that would randomly kick on. I would hear it in my garage, running at 2am. Everyday driving should keep the battery charged. A short, once a week...
You expertise is what? Some old Excursions? Members should not give any tips, that may harm or damage a Expedition. I personally believe the problem is the high idle, right after start up. I have driven many 4.6L, 6.8l v10 and a couple 5.4l. All slightly rev high when cold, but my 2001 inteh 32V...
You want to go thinner, not thicker. This is not 1976. Thicker oil starves the top end on modular V8s. There have been numerous post, about cam followers coming off. It also takes longer to pump to phasers and tensioners. You will make your cold start issue worse.
