Got home from Austin about 5:40, said goodbye to the wife (ortho trauma nurse, she works nights) and had the 5 Star tune in by 6:10. Took it for a test drive and immediately noticed a big change in how the vehicle drives. Just did the 87 street/tow tune for now. It almost responds too quick...
supposedly the cam phasers rattle is not supposed to cause future problems. There are a few good videos out there that detail the issue. There is a locking pin that breaks and allows the phaser to rotate when it shouldn’t until oil pressure builds up. Usually just a moment or two.
similarly...
Sent info to 5 Star around 6:30 on Friday, got confirmation the info I sent was good on Monday AM, got my tunes before end of business today. Going to tune on Friday when I get home from my business trip and see how it goes!
New, used...doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t blame it on being a used vehicle. There are others on here that have had phaser and/or turbo issues that bought them new and have far fewer miles. Just a known gremlin with the 3.5 eco boost. The F-150 and Raptors have the same issues with the phasers...
very brief rattle is cam phasers. Pretty decent size job, covered under warranty by dealer. If the rattle lasts longer it would be the drivers side turbo. Also covered under warranty.
4DTech makes a plug in memorizer that will memorize what setting you last chose for auto start/stop or if you disable it permanently in a tune or via a programmer for 4D. I think you might be able to do it with forscan as well but others would need to confirm. I did the 4D memorizer.
Awaiting my tunes from 5 Star, using the SCT X4. Honestly I don’t intend to have it sitting on my dash doing data logging, etc. I just need it to load a tune, primarily looking to change the transmission a little. I’d like the same firmness/quickness shifting as normal mode but I’d like it to...
I’m complete opposite. No way I’d ever want the bench. The captains chairs are great for getting into the 3rd row without having to mess with the seats. Plus with 2 dogs it’s a great spot for them to sit when they aren’t behind the 3rd row. Kids also put all kinds of stuff between them on road...
Just hooked up the X4 I ordered last week and had no problems so far. I just e-mailed the strategy info off to 5Star. Unless their magicians are working tomorrow it will be next weekend before I find out more as I’ll be traveling all next week for work.
According to the body shop that repaired my front end after I hit a deer, the drivers side lamp for my Platinum was $1,6667. Not quite the $1,800, but certainly not half either.
IMO that grill guard wouldn’t do sh*t against a deer. As another said, it might actually do more harm than good...
Just ordered from 5 star. I passed on the Black Friday pricing last year and they didn’t have the SCT tuner then, just the HP Tuner. I’ll give it a try and see what happens I guess.
Similar parts list for me as well, except the passenger headlamp was fine. Mine was leaking coolant as well, don’t remember if it was intercooler and radiator or what. The list of parts was several pages long. Also needed an AC compressor. Mine they used 100% new OEM parts. They couldn’t...
I hit one of those sh*ts in August. Ended up being $14K in damages. A good chunk of that for me though was the active shutters and the grill. Those two parts alone were > $5K of the cost. Mine is a platinum so you may find it ends up being in the $10K range if you don’t have the same.
Found my old iPhone XS case so I ran out to the garage to try it out. Charged fine regardless where I put the phone with the case on it. I moved it around intermittently over the course of 5 minutes and had no issues. I don’t get the same results at all with either my iPhone 12 Pro or my...
I finally got a chance to try out my old iPhone XS. Worked just fine without a case on it for 5 minutes sitting in the garage. I then tried my iPhone 12 Pro. It stopped charging in less than 1 minute in a case. The case in question is just a thin clear rubber-ish one. I tried again without...
I would suspect it wouldn’t. I have a thin clear case, wife has a thin case as well. They work fine with the Qi charging pads we use at night and my Anker Qi stand. Traveling for work, haven’t been able to test again with the 12 Pro vs old XS...
Had this start to happen the other day. Worked fine with my iPhone XS, but moved on to the iPhone 12 Pro. Wife’s 12 Pro does the same thing. Was thinking it might be phone related and not charger related. I gave my mom my XS so I can give it a try and see if it is related to different phone or...
Good question. One that I won’t be able to answer though, I have zero intention of using a dealer or lube shop do this. Lowest skilled, lowest paid (I assume on both of these) person doing the most frequent maintenance activity...somewhere along the way something isn’t going to be done right...
I haven't used the search feature to see if anyone has posted results of their oil analysis or if anyone else has done them right away, so figured I'd share.
I had blackstone labs do an analysis at 5K miles on my Expedition as well as at 10K. Changed the factory oil at 5K because I figured it...
How prevalent are VCT and wastegates I wonder? Got 10,200 on my ‘19 Max Platinum and seems issues begin to crop up as early as where I’m at in miles...wondering if I’ll be taking it in for VCT and/or turbo in the not so distant future?
Why just the drivers side turbo??
Honestly if you want luxury manufacturer like service you’ll need to go to a luxury brand. Part of the premium price. Maybe you’ll have better luck with a Lincoln.
Got to remember at Ford they have people buying $20K shoe boxes all the way up to sub $90K SUVs. They aren’t going to save loaner...
