I can add to this. We're currently getting mixed snow, a little sleet, freezing drizzle, etc.
I dragged a project rig out of the shop to make room for the Expy to get it out of the weather in case we need to go somewhere, with the Hankooks on in 2wd I couldn't move.
Waiting on the front...
Getting a standalone to run the engine/trans is the easy bit....
Getting that to communicate with the vehicle's systems is a whole different beast. I'm not THAT kind of a mechanic....being elbows deep in an old school 5.0 and knowing that old Windsor and Mustang stuff is my forte, engine swaps...
I just stabbed a Pioneer into mine last night. It has bluetooth for music and calls. No navigation function though. Does have a dvd player function.
The more costly ones will do more with nicer menus and more customization. Some of the higher end units are more about navigation and the camera...
Funnily enough, a fast google search shows all kinds of positive results for people using forscan on their navigators. Maybe your laptop is incapable...or maybe you are?
Hmmm..
It's got me wanting to find an '05 Excursion with the V10, and just garage it till the 7.3 can be found in a wrecked Super Duty.
I think you know where I'm going here...
Physically, the 7.3 gas engine will bolt in place of the V10, a 5.4, 4.6, or pretty much any variation of the Modular...
The P1500 is a good place to start ;)
The UO101 is a "standard" code/indicator that there is a fault somewhere and it puts the trans in "limp" mode. It will still drive, just usually stays in 3rd. This happens to the 4th gen Explorers with the 4.6 when the coils go bad....the RF leakage causes...
I thought Navigators were mostly driven by older folks who drink their instant coffee with their pinky waving in the breeze, who only use it to go to the golf course, or urban thugs with big speakers and bigger wheels throwin' signs and clappin' fools?
Or am I thinkin' of those pesky Escalade...
4A engages the front when a certain amount of slippage is detected.
4H is when the front is locked in regardless of slippage detected, and will somewhat increase the braking in slippery conditions due to parasitic "drag" on the driveline, and it also takes into play the weight shifting when...
Ummm...what about locomotives.
They're electric, of course diesel engines run the generators (or alternators, not sure if the electric motors are AC or DC in that application..)...
And they move far heavier loads than any other vehicle, that I can think of..
I occasionally get the blinking light myself. Last time it came on I had a scanner handy so I pulled over and plugged it in and took off again and managed to get misfires on cylinders 1 and 8.
Figured it's probably needing some coil packs...ughh. Just did replace them on my exploder.
What's the reasoning behind the alleged inability to use forscan?
(hint; it's untrue. forscan works on navigators just as it does expeditions and explorers and all else made in the last few years)
That shit would piss me off. If I say no the first time, that ought to be enough. Car dealers are a damned persistent bunch. It's irritating when they just keep badgering one about something.
We didn't quite know that they didn't make those parts for the navi anymore....glad you told us like 17 times. LOL
It started working again eh? Sure you just didn't know what in the hell you were doing in the first place? LOL
All these years of mechanical expertise and you didn't already think...
I'm curious on this as well. Mine has the heated mirrors, I was wondering if I found the mirrors with the turn indicators if they were plug n play. Wouldn't be any problem to wire them in, though. Heated mirrors, on the other hand...might be more in depth.
And maybe the guy who has a rough or non running vehicle who needs it to get to work in the morning, who doesn't have the option of waiting three days for the damned thing to come in.
I've had to improvise to fix stuff on the side of the road. Had to change many a u-joint in places other than...
On the explorers, sometimes soda or stuff will get spilled and it will gum up. What my point is....get you some of that electronics cleaner...the stuff they use for circuit boards and such, it's a spray, an aerosol can of stuff (NOT the PC duster shit, that's NOT it), and spray some on the rod...
Umm, the 7.3 is available in the F350. I personally know of a guy who has one, at that.
I can't speak on the future of the ecoboom, but I'd think that it may remain an option for Mustang and half tons.
And the 6.8 WILL be in a Mustang soon. Maybe have some letters and numbers on it that say...
25 degrees.
must be nice.
And I laughed at the chevy comment.
OP, there's is always a way to fix stuff or modify it so it's no an issue. You should know this...with your years and years of mechanical repair history and in-depth knowledge of vehicular devices and all..
It's a chore, for sure.
Have any of you guys ran into issues with the lug nuts and the chrome covers? I'd read online that the lugs were 19mm (as most of the Explorer lugs are) but at a glance I could tell they were bigger. My 22mm socket is too big, the 21mm isn't big enough. However, I did...
