    I've had rain, water, soda, and once, famously, a milkshake spilled onto my window switches on my 98 Explorer. Still works. I did have to take 'em apart and clean the ice cream goo out of 'em. If you left the window down in a tropical deluge, the switches would be lower on the priority list...
