    Transmission delay to not engaging

I’ve had the C6 in my Bronco apart twice in the last 15 years but never a 4R70/75. But there are similarities. I’d bet the forward clutch is shot, whether that be the piston inner and outer seals or the sealing rings on the stator support. Anyone with 4R70 series first hand experience?

What to look for when buying a gen 2 expy

Passenger/right side exhaust manifold. Mine is an '06 XLT. While troubleshooting passenger bank noise, saw telltale signs of leakage from #4 (aft cyl., pass side) exhaust manifold. I replaced it, turned out it was warped per my straight edge, with the #4 port being about 0.025" pulling away...

    Priming oil pump on reman

Start it. In 2017 I replaced the OEM oil pump with a Melling M360 (along with phasers, chains, guides, tensionsers, followers and lash adjusters). Did lots of cranking and never got pressure. Had to cross the fingers and it was only a few seconds after engine start it got pressure. I've seen...

Starter Replacement - That Top Bolt.

I found having the fender liner removed helps--at least can get barely a visual of the bolt location and maybe a set of fingers in there to stabilize the deep socket or extension depending on how you attack the bolt. The job is so much easier with the engine raised off its mount (I was in there...

    Starter Motor Average Life Span???

My '06 has 122,000 miles with the original starter. Had to remove it when replacing passenger side exhaust manifold. The top bolt is a huge pain in the butt. I didn't replace it when it was off because at the time, OEM starters weren't really available and I didn't want to go aftermarket. If...

2005 Expedition timing chain kit replacement. Can a (fairly capable) newbie do it? (moral support thread)

It’s a time consuming and tedious job. In addition to phasers, chains, tensioners and guides, replacing the oil pump, roller followers and lash adjusters are a must. I did this myself over 5 years ago but have about 45 years of experience doing all kinds of car mechanical work. Of course there...

    Engine ticking, poor MPG

I'm sorry to hear you're having these problems. I did phasers, timing chains, guides, tensioners, water pump, lash adjusters, oil pump and roller followers in 2017 at 100K miles and passenger exhaust manifold this spring at 120K mi. Both jobs are tedious, time consuming and require lots of...

    New ac compressor

Usually with a failed compressor nowadays, the condenser needs to be replaced as well due to little bits that don't get flushed out. You didn't mention the high side pressure; it's probably worth a look. If the discharge pressure is high and the low side is near zero, the expansion valve is...

Should AC air out of vents be colder?

This is from my 2006 Ford Expedition Service Manual, Volume I: For a 95 degree day, discharge pressure range is about 180-260 psi and the suction side is 35-74 psi. Ford says to check with all windows and tailgate open, blower front and rear on high, outside air (versus recirc) and temp...

5.4 Triton choking out at 3,000 rpm

Definitely concur with Vincent Vega. FORScan is a great tool, I use the Lite version on the iPhone. With a good Bluetooth OBD adapter, you can see all the sensors and also calculated values. Without a check engine light, it’s the best diagnostic tool.

    03 5.4L 2V - new oil pump won't prime

I couldn’t get pressure by cranking the engine after installing a high volume Melling pump during a full timing job along with roller followers and lash adjusters. I took the chance of starting the engine and got pressure within about 5 seconds. Risky business but no ill effects 20K miles later.

    2015 Expedition engine knocking issue

Rod knocks are most pronounced at around 2K' RPM with a floating / unloaded engine. I've lived the horror...had 3 rod bearings go out in my years--all dissimilar engines--and the behavior was the same (Chevy 327, Datsun L20B and Ford 4.9L 6 cyl). Drive it with windows down in 1st or 2nd gear...

2006 Expedition- Need help shops can't figure out the issue

My 2006 XLT had similar symptoms 8 years ago at 80K miles but without the vapor purge problem. Had power issues under load and got a cylinder 5 misfire code and occasionally the blinking check engine light. 8 Autolite HT15 plugs fixed the problem. I should have done plug boots at that time...
