Impact of Heavy Duty Tow Package (w/ 3.73 axle ratio) on MPG gas mileage

I don’t tow anything but do have a heavy foot...that being said, I get about 15 combined. I’m not a crazy person on the road, but even when I try to baby it, I can’t EVER get over 17mpg on a tank. (Road trips are different, then I get about 20.) I’m not complaining, I didn’t buy this thing to...

    Vinegar-like smell

Haha, yes. It was definitely a mold/mildew smell out of the vents. I had a 20 minute drive today and shut the a/c off and ran the fan on full blast. Seems to have corrected it. I guess we’ll find out next time I get in.

Intelligent Access and Auto Start-Stop Fails

That’s interesting...I wonder what the connection is. Perhaps a faulty intrusion sensor is a battery drain? Because it’s absolutely a battery issue, so I’m just trying to think of the connection between the two. Thanks!

    Vinegar-like smell

No air fresheners. I feel like it has to be the downtime, the AC runs for 8 minutes while I run to the grocery store and then sits for three days. Then we do it all over again. I’ll just deal with it until life is back to normal and then see how it does.

    Vinegar-like smell

My vents smell awful. Any ideas? I try to drive it every couple days or so but I assume it’s related to the increased downtime. Should I be worried a drain tube is suddenly plugged up somewhere? My cabin air filter was just changed a couple months ago.

Intelligent Access and Auto Start-Stop Fails

That will do it but it also disables your rear parking sensors. I don’t mind the auto start stop.

Driver door touch to lock/unlock works - others stopped working

Same issue described in this thread from a few days ago: https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/intelligent-access-and-auto-start-stop-fails.43604/ It’s all battery related. Our vehicles are sitting far more then ever before and the battery is not being charged. The “always on” sensors in...

    Sync quirks...tips and tricks?

Maybe it's a version thing? Or maybe mine is glitchy and not supposed to work this way, ha! If I have my iphone plugged in (CarPlay is active), a short press wakes up Siri and a long press gets me Sync. If I have nothing plugged in (no CarPlay), a short press gets me Sync and a long press...

    Sync quirks...tips and tricks?

On 4...if you press and hold (for several seconds) the voice button while on CarPlay, it will bring up the Sync prompt. And vice versa...if you don’t have your phone plugged in and hold the voice button for several seconds, it will bring up Siri.

Intelligent Access and Auto Start-Stop Fails

Mine either. It’s normal-ish. Your battery is a bit low but not enough to be a problem for anything. A lot of folks on here have spent good money to disable that system, just count yourself blessed and don’t worry about it.

Intelligent Access and Auto Start-Stop Fails

It’s the battery. The battery isn’t bad or anything, just not getting charged enough and the system gets confused. I had the same symptoms you describe. My power third row also stopped working if you want to check for another symptom. My dealer “reset” the ASS and all was well from then on...

Impact of Heavy Duty Tow Package (w/ 3.73 axle ratio) on MPG gas mileage

But I think that comes on all trim levels/packs, not just HD tow.

Impact of Heavy Duty Tow Package (w/ 3.73 axle ratio) on MPG gas mileage

I’m not saying it doesn’t, but when this question came up a year or so a few of us looked. The 1-3 gens call out a trans cooler in the marketing literature and the 4th doesn’t. Again, I’m not saying it for sure doesn’t, but I bet if it did Ford would be crowing about it...automakers aren’t...

Impact of Heavy Duty Tow Package (w/ 3.73 axle ratio) on MPG gas mileage

To your question: you’re going to take a small hit on the gas mileage, but it’s not going to be noticeable. We’re talking a couple bucks a month type thing. The biggest drawback is the added cost at purchase. But if the one you like has it already and the dealer will deal, that probably is not a...

What kind of Spare did Ford Give You?

Think of a a non-matching spare as a safety measure. There are a lot of .... less informed ... drivers out there. If all vehicles had a matching spare, I guarantee a large number of folks would get a flat, rig up the spare, put the flat back under the vehicle, and never get it fixed/replaced...

What kind of Spare did Ford Give You?

Full size spare just means “not a donut”. Your diameter is the same size as your normal set, so you could theoretically drive on it for however long and however far as you’d like, which is not the case with a donut. It would be unsightly, but you’re not going to be limited to 50 miles or 50mph.

    Weird noise under light acceleration

Given your repair history, THAT may actually be a transmission problem. But I would think having them look at the check valve TSB would be a pretty easy trap to run before tearing into the transmission again. Good luck.

    Weird noise under light acceleration

When I had this issue it absolutely sounds like a grinding noise. So much so that I initially thought it was a tranny issue as well. The teeth of the hub rub against each other until they finally seat, hence the grind and thunk. The system can’t pull a strong enough vacuum to disengage the...

    Weird noise under light acceleration

It’s this. There’s a TSB for it. Mine had it as have several others. Easy fix under warranty. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10171859-0001.pdf

I really miss the Gear Shift Lever

Agree. If you’re going to get rid of a physical lever make it as unobtrusive as possible.

I really miss the Gear Shift Lever

I love a column shifter and miss mine, but the rotary is ok. It’s the console that’s a waste...not only does it take up a lot of real estate in the center console, it also sticks right up in the middle of everything. It’s simply a holdover from manual transmissions; now that we’re not...

I really miss the Gear Shift Lever

There’s benefits and drawback. I do miss my column shifter but with tech today there’s no reason for a big console shifter taking up all that real estate in the center console. That being said, I don’t know that the Ford rotary saves THAT much room as it still occupies a good bit of space...the...
