    Get a nylon tool (spoon). Usually comes in a kit for removing clips, plugs, etc. Won't scrape the paint off the metal. Screw drivers are not for this purpose. Amazon or local Walmart or parts store. Usually very inexpensive

    Emissions problem

    Try checking all the vacuum lines if you have not done so. Leaky Vac lines will cause emission problems. Instead of smoke test, just replace them all since they have probably rotted & leaking over the years...

    Welcome Bruce. I was driving 80's diesel Fords & '73/'79 Ford trucks before I got my 'Eddie'. Paid $1250 for mine but it needed a little work. Easy to find parts for these at the Pick-N-Pull.

    Check LKQ.com or Car-Parts.com You will need the VIN & axle designation from the tag in the drivers door frame below the lock. You should have quite a few choices in your area. Try for same year & low mileage. Replace the oil before you install & add fiction additive if is a limited slip...

    Recommendations?

    I have the Kenwood DDS 9705S. Does so much. Fit right in my 2004 EB. Crutchfield got me the correct patch cabling to plug right in. Was on sale then (maybe discontinued model) & paid around $475 for everything in 2018.

    I don't know how old your tires are, sometimes it doesn't matter, but I would rotate tires + check that one of the front tires is not separating or has balance weight off.

    A lot of us with the old 6.9 & 7.3 IDI Ford Diesels have gone to a 7# cap for the same reason. Makes a big difference.

    I would bet the used intake is leaking causing your problems. It should have been replaced with new. Good price but I am too far away for now
