    Battery charge and recommendation

I took a one year old Diehard back that I bought from Advance Auto because it wasn't holding a charge. It was out of the vehicle. They tested the battery, said it was good, just needed recharging. I tried to explain to the tattooed lady that I had charged it out of the vehicle 3 days prior...

    Real world MPG results

My 2004 EB, 5.4 L will get 17.2 on the highway @ 70 mph with AC on and no head wind. If I bump it up to 80 mph, it drops to 15.8 mpg. Mixed driving 35% city and 65% highway the computer says 15.4.

    Washer fluid drained overnight

That is something I hadn't considered. I'll take another look at it. So far so good, but I haven't pressed the rear washer button yet.

    Pink Coolant?

Drive after each drain and fill until it reaches full operating temp. Turn heater on high to circulate and get that coolant out too.

    Edelbrock coil packs

I've only got 91k on my '03 EB and over the 17 years I've owned it I had 3 coil packs go bad. I'm sure they were OEM. The first one failed 12 years ago at 72,600 miles. The second one failed 4 years ago at 87,200 miles. The last one was about a year ago at 90,984 miles, I figured, enough of that...

    Washer fluid drained overnight

I tried plugging the hose inside the vehicle behind the kick panel, but that didn't work. Ended up cutting the hose to the rear washer where it goes into the firewall under the hood. Plugged up one of those plastic washer hose connectors with RTV and let it set until cured. Then I inserted...

    Pink Coolant?

This. Except it may take up to 5 times of filling and draining. I used distilled water because we have very hard water in this area. It's only about $1 a gallon the local grocery. It will take 10 or 12 gallons to drain and fill 5 times. Then 2 gallons of concentrated coolant to bring it to...

    Ac flap stuck

Sorry, it's been a few years and I don't remember the size of the vacuum tubing. Just pull the battery and inspect for bad/broken vacuum hoses. I think I fixed mine with JB Weld because I don't remember buying any new tubing.

New 2003 owner. What are the first things you did?

True story. I'm on my way to get the required annual safety and emission inspection. About a mile from the inspection station, the CEL, SES, or whatever, light comes on. I head back home and reset the code (P0442), then right back to the inspection station. Failed the emissions test...

New 2003 owner. What are the first things you did?

Thanks for that. I get the check engine light with OBD code P0442 (small evap leak) every 4 to 6 months. I just reset the code and I'm good for another 4-6 months. But I can always smell gasoline at the left rear tire after I drive it. Now I know why.

New 2003 owner. What are the first things you did?

I've had mine since '06, so not the first things I did. But I recently replaced the headlights. Makes a world of difference. Also, check to see if the rear washer is working. There seems to be several instances of the washer hose separating under the dash at the front kick panel. Your washer...

    Blend door broken?

Before you do that, check for a broken or leaking vacuum hose under the hood. By the firewall behind the battery. At least that was the problem with mine when I couldn't get the heated or cooled air to come out of anything but the floor vents. I don't know if your problem is related to mine...

    2004 EB 5.4 Stalling when cold P0320 & P0351-P0358 Can't find the short

    AC clutch not staying engaged

Sounds like the clutch is wearing out. I don't know if that is an independently replaceable part, or if the entire compressor needs to be replaced. Depending on the mileage it might be a good idea to replace it.

    Ac flap stuck

When I had that problem, it turned out to be a vacuum hose leak under the hood. Right behind the battery near the firewall. So, mine is apparently a vacuum controlled unit. Same vehicle, 2003 EB.

    Backup Alarm misbehaving

I'm interested in the fix for this too. Mine used to work, then it started working intermittently, and now it hasn't worked in probably 6 years. Always get the "check backup aid" when I put it in reverse.

    Got the Official Notice

Factory recalls don't expire. If it is not a safety concern, I would wait until it goes out. If it is a fire hazard or something, that ain't smart. :)

    Alternator question...

Take it to O'Reilley's or Auto Zone and have them test the charging system. They will do it for free. After 8 years, maybe you just need a new alternator or battery.

Great low mileage find. I would have taken that deal too.

No codes? Not even misfire codes? Possibly clogged cat? Check for banana in the tail pipe :).

    Muffler on its way out

Doesn't seem like a problem unless it's causing driveability problems. $950 for a muffle is outrageous. Maybe for a catalytic converter. You can probably take it to Midas Muffler and get it replaced for half that.
