Ford quietly redesigned the thermostat in 2022...replace it

First towing trip with the new thermostat. About 100 miles round-trip. Going out, 58° outside, Transmission temp 201°. Coming back outside temp 90° transmission temp 216°. Mild rolling Hills. 7500 pound 28 foot trailer. 65 MPH.

Ford quietly redesigned the thermostat in 2022...replace it

I did a little research this morning on the thermostat listed for the 2022+ models, the RT-1250. Consistent with the RT-1252, descriptions show a rating of 190°F, but the markings on the thermostat show 90.6°C, which is 195°F.

Ford quietly redesigned the thermostat in 2022...replace it

If the new thermostat was 190° the engine should run 5° cooler until maximum capacity on the cooling system was reached. This is what I was hoping for.

Ford quietly redesigned the thermostat in 2022...replace it

Uh… Nope. Not seeing that. I did see this. 2018-2021..RT1252 2022-2023..RT 1250 I have a 2018, so I ordered the RT1252. I verified this on several web sites. Every single one that listed a temperature said RT1252 was 190°. Hence my confusion at the 90.6 C designation. Actual thermostats in...

Ford quietly redesigned the thermostat in 2022...replace it

Back to the thermostat discussion… LOL. I have not seen this issue, but after research I decided to put in the new style thermostat. Mostly because I do tow and I don’t want my temperature to get to 240+ degrees. I ordered the RT-1252 thermostat and went to install it today. I noticed there...

    Auto Shut Off

You were cursing under your breath at the silliness of the system, and it was mistaken for a prayer, which was answered. But trying a new battery would be a good idea. You will lose other functions, like your rear door unlock sensors and Interior lights will go out in just a few seconds...

High Belt Line on 4th gens!

I am 6’3” and my wife is 5’2”. We replaced a 2003 Eddie Bauer with our 2018. She always used to check the oil on our 2003. On this one I told her never mind. LOL I actually think that lowering the spare once a year is a good idea just to make sure it will work when you need it to.

Intelligent access of rear passenger side door stopped working.

I lived this as well about a year ago. Battery was still under the three year/36,000 mile warranty. I had it to the dealer three times. My biggest concern is that the interior lights would go out in under a minute instead of the 10 minutes designed. The dealer paid for a rental car for five or...

    CLASSIC AND DREADED HVAC PROBLEMS

I had this problem several years ago on my 2018. The dealer wanted to replace all of the actuators. My profession is a service technician on office machines, so I had a discussion with the service tech. The odds of all of the actuators/blend doors failing at the same time is beyond logic. They...

Leaving running boards deployed - pros and cons

On another note, don’t wait until they get slow or fail. Maintain them! Every Spring I use WD-40 to clean and flush, and Fluid film as suggested in the video. Great video!

Leaving running boards deployed - pros and cons

I’ve been in the habit of turning mine to be deployed when I stop the vehicle and I’m planning to get in and out several times, such as loading or unloading. They go back to Auto when you exceed 5 mph. otherwise you have to remember to change it back. One time I deployed them and forgot to...

Spark plugs and coil packs 2017

I posted this in another place as well, but it seems pertinent to both. I developed a rare shudder at 25,000 miles. With research I saw threads where the spark plugs had excessive gaps at 40 to 50,000 miles. So, being cheap enough and easy enough I decided to change my plugs. I did go with the...

    2018 Max Platinum - Misfire/Plugs/Coils/VCT/Engine Rumble/Customer Assurance/PCM Info

I developed a rare shudder at 25,000 miles. With research I saw threads where the spark plugs had excessive gaps at 40 to 50,000 miles. So, being cheap enough and easy enough I decided to change my plugs. I did go with the standard heat range as I do not have a tune. This took less than one...

Is anyone having good experiences with 22+?

I wonder if they changed the suspension from the 2018 model. I did want a vehicle with off-road capability, so I expected a “firm” ride, But we have absolutely no regrets getting the standard suspension. In fact, I would call the suspension nearly perfect.

Is anyone having good experiences with 22+?

I intentionally avoided the CCD when I bought my 2018. They have a history of feeling prematurely, and are very very expensive to replace/fix. Then I learned that the adjustment setting was only available when you change modes. Sport is firm, economy is soft. Not sure if that is true. But sure...

    4H / 4A / 2H

LokiWolf has this down, so just echoing that if there is only a 4A selection, it is in 4H if one of the modes is selected, Sand, Grass Gravel Snow, or Mud/Ruts. I bought my 2018 new in January 2019. It has the Toyo tires, which I saw nothing but complaints with them. I have found them to be...

Spark plugs and coil packs 2017

Yes!! I installed a JBL catch can on one side right away from your suggestions. Thank you very much! I found this YouTube interesting. We don’t know if they were using top-tier gas or if they had a catch can. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sNzF7rm8OzY

Spark plugs and coil packs 2017

I only expected it to be minimized, hence the catch can and only top tier fuel. It seems to be more of an improvement than I had hoped. Are there any pictures out there showing carbon build up on the Gen II’s??

Just curious- why no interior release on fuel filler door?

Are you sure?? My 2018 Limited does NOT lock! I know this because my 5 year old grandson got in the habit of opening it (doors always locked) whenever he walked by. If it is supposed to lock I WILL fix it!!

Spark plugs and coil packs 2017

Yeah, when I bought it I was looking for a used 2015-ish, but the GEN II upgrades won me over. Who knew about the cam phasers, shocks, and waste gates… LOL. At least I don’t have to worry so much about carbon buildup.

Spark plugs and coil packs 2017

If I am going to pull the plugs, which I am, I will have new ones in hand and replace them. Also, I thought that the weep hole was rarely if ever needed on the GEN II ecoboost. It will probably be a month or two before I get to this, but I will post results.

Spark plugs and coil packs 2017

Hello. 24k on my 2018 Limited. Had a couple instances of “stumble“ and a little bit of a rough idle. Completely stock except for a catch can. I’m going to do a plug replacement with the Ruthenium as recommended. I was wondering why the one step colder plug NGK 95605 is recommended for a...
