weird noise, 2003 eddie bauer

I have a 2003 5.4 4WD, It recently started making a weird noise which sounds like its coming from the front drivers side but I could possibly be wrong about that. Hi all, thanks in advance for your help. I just purchased a 2003 expy and I am doing a trans service but don’t know which transmission is equipped in my vehicle.
