    Should I keep her?

The used large SUV market may be deflated but the rest of the auto market is inflated. Especially economy cars. That is how I ended up with my expy, it was $800 and the beat up 90s economy cars around here they wanted $2000-$3000 for rust buckets.

    Used expy w/ 157k, crazy?

45-50 mph (torque converter lock-out range) it will give me a little bit of torque converter chatter on rare occasions when I'm lugging it slowly through the gears. It still shifts great through the gears though and it never slips on me.

    Should I keep her?

I found myself in a similar dilemma but for different reasons. I was thinking of switching to a fuel efficient car, specifically a ford focus with a manual transmission. But I found myself sticking with the expy because I came to the same conclusions sol mentioned. 1) its paid for. 2) I know...

    Trouble getting to coil #3

Lube o-rings with clean motor oil.

    Used expy w/ 157k, crazy?

Mine has over 176k on the clock and I'm pretty sure it has the original transmission. I'm not sure how much life is left in my transmission but it is definitely showing signs of wear.

    My next addition

Yeah, 7.62 is cheap stuff. Mounting an M2 or MK19 that would be a bit more pricey and impressive :rotflmao:

What to look for when buying a gen 1 expy

PFFFFT! Bull! I changed mine, hardest spark plug job I have ever done in my life! Don't even get me started on plug #4 either, the one that is wrapped up in heater hoses.

    Rocker Panel Rust Repair

How far gone are they? You might have to form same rockers yourself. I see mine just starting to go on my passenger side. My rust was hard to see because it hides between the door and the big running boards, I didn't notice it until I ran my hand along it. I'm not sure how bad your rockers are...

    Hard Vibration

Don't feel bad, mine is just starting to do it too, it does it rarely but in the same exact mph range as yours and its very short term and not as violent. But if it "feels like driving over a rumble strip" that is what it is. I'll be going the additive route too this weekend when I get to the...

    Hard Vibration

Torque convertor shudder. Try a transmission additive that advertises "eliminates torque convertor shudder". Also try changing the fluid if it has been a while, other than that you're going to have to get some transmission work done later.

    New Idea----need help

Compiling a troubleshooting thread would be great. It could be like I've seen on some other truck sites where it lists problems or codes and then everything that could cause the problem listed under it (like a checklist of parts to check, etc.).

Tracking down some high mileage problems

Hm, that is strange, I can get my A4WD expy to break traction from a stop even when I'm not trying to. Like Thermo said, if the check engine light flashes at all there should be a code. I know I'm throwing a random idea out but if its doing it under heavy loads (and I assume after the vehicle is...

    Transmission shudder up-date

I'm not sure how much the flush will help if you've changed the fluid twice in 45 days but hopefully it does. Have you considered using an additive? Other than that the only options you have is transmission work. My torque convertor is starting to shutter also, just on rare occasion but my...

    Miles until it's dead?

lol, never meant to have 135,000 miles, then why do you propose the odometer has that many digits? It is obviously meant to have over 100,000 then. There is no magic number where problems come up. Mine has over 175,000 miles on it, and I can tell that the previous owner ABUSED and NEGLECTED the...

    Manual anyone?

I'd love to have a manual in my expy, just not enough to do all that work. I think its a great idea if you're willing to put all the work into it. I honestly would rather have a manual in an everyday driver than an automatic, but then again I live in rural Vermont. The increased efficiency and...

What should I call this thing?

My three year old son has a funny way of saying expedition. When he says it it comes out like "Edition" . :rotflmao: He has grown very attached to it, now I know I can never replace it with something that gets over 20 mpgs consisitently lol.

What should I call this thing?

What is wrong with calling it a truck? My wife and son call my expy "the truck" all the time. What does she have against calling it a truck? It is based strongly off of the f-150 platform. I also use mine as a truck as often as possible so I can justify driving something that gets such terrible...

Can you feel the difference between AWD4X4 vs 2wd/4x4 models?

No, they're called exploders because they have a bad reputation (not sure how founded it is but the reputation is out there) for blowing up when rear ended hard enough. I'm not even really sure which years are in question.

    Exhaust manifold

My manifolds are starting to leak too. I'm pretty sure all the bolts will break off and need to be drilled. One stud is already broken off from the previous owner :nono: . I'll be sticking to the exhaust manifolds because if it isn't a decent upgrade then I don't see it being worth the money.

    Another new Expedition owner

Well here are a few pics. I took it for a drive and I can see why you guys like the expys so much. Kind of reminds me of driving a super luxurious MRAP lol. Very enjoyable to drive. Next thing on the list is exhaust work. Oh and its still filthy from sitting around.

    Another new Expedition owner

Recently bought a 99 Expedition XLT 5.4L Triton 4x4 for $800. It has 175000 miles on it. It had a misfire on cylinders 2 and 7. Replaced the coils and plugs and *poof* misfires gone :) . It still has a few things I still have to fix like an exhaust manifold leak and I have to fix the passenger...

    Cylinder misfire #2 & 7

Well, I finally finished the plugs and coils, and it fixed my misfires. It turns out only 2 out of 8 plugs were changed from the previous owner. The hardest part of changing the plugs and coils were cylinders #3&4 because of the heater hoses that go into the firewall. I wonder if anyone has a...

    Cylinder misfire #2 & 7

That makes sense about not using anti-seize, I'm glad you said something because I was going to use it. On the other topic: yeah I've seen the other forum and I've joined that one too just haven't posted there yet. After I get my expedition rolling I'll clean it up and get pictures of it on here...

    Cylinder misfire #2 & 7

Don't use anti-seize? I thought everyone recommended it. Well, I found that in cylinder #7 the shop the previous owners took it to didn't feel like changing that plug. It still had an old rusty burned out Motorcraft plug. The shop probably felt that working around the fuel pressure regulator was...

    Cylinder misfire #2 & 7

Coils & Plugs Well I bought a set of 8 coils and autolite copper core spark plugs. I figured I'd keep it simple with the coppers as I'm trying to get rid of a misfire. I'll let you know how it goes after I install them and fire her up. Thanks for the input walnuts and you have a nice looking...
