Why do people keep buying these land yachts with VVT designs? There's plenty of examples of Ford engines needing repetitive cam phaser jobs. Its a well known defect, and Ford could give two ***** about it except to ward off a class action. They try to squeeze every MPG out of a teeny V6 with...
Yeah well when they relist their ridiculous MSRP maybe I'll consider selling my ole 1st gen with 248,*** miles....then again I don't really want to pay for a VVT rebuild after 60k miles.
Installed new Motorcraft exhaust manifold, got it for $65 at some dealership in central Florida online. Purchased stainless steel hardware, and also metal gaskets vs the standard. This I'm sure will hold much better. Sounds nice and quiet.
I service my truck at a Ford performance shop. They do race mustangs, have a in-ground dyno, fiberglass fabrication shop etc. They do rebuilds every day and are very familiar with the VVT issues i.e cam phasers etc with Fords 5.4's and 3.5's.
They suggested I look into a Blazer, Suburban...
When I lived in Chicago suburbs, I always carried a micro-battery starter/charger, electric tire pump, gloves, spare coat, ear muffs, water, energy bars, spare iPhone charger. I also made sure to check my spare air pressure in the Fall.
Ask me how I learned this.
I change my tranny fluid every 50k-70k miles. I now have 248,*** on my 1st gen and I got to 295,*** on my 1992 BMW 735i.
I also change the diff fluid every 75k as well as the front transfer case fluid.
Oil is cheap, trannys are not.
Its a clicky click....no mur, mur nor shimmy. Sounds like a playing card flapping on the spokes of a bicycle. Not super loud, stops when foot off gas. Not the transfer case, Im thinking wheel bearing.
My dial has AWD, 4Hi, 4Lo. I never switch it. It’s not suspension because it stops when I take foot off gas pedal and it goes away after 45mph. Noise frequency doesn’t increase in speed faster I go.
Stumped.
Yep. Just noticed it. Definitely sounds like either IWE solenoid and/or actuator and/or the IWE’s themselves.
Are the IWE’s on these built into the hubs or are they separate parts that can be replaced?
Holding my breath because if you do one thing then you might as well do a bunch of other...
