    A quick service, into disaster!

Similar heater hose broke on my wife's '11 and. I cut out the Y, replaced it with one from the parts store. The part and clamps cost under $10

New engine or new vehicle ?

This one's interesting. I think the decision really depends on the overall condition of your Expy, and how much you like it. OP lives in San Antonio, so I doubt rust is an issue. You said you've spent money on maintenance, so if you've spent money on parts other than the engine those are things...

    strut questions.

I own the autozone set I linked to in the first post and have used them on many different vehicles without issue. They're fine most of the time, even the rears on the Expy were a breeze. Have you changed springs on the 4x4 Expy or F150? These springs are very thick and take a lot of pressure to...

    strut questions.

This is true, I was just looking and some of the side by side pics of supposedly "direct replacement" shock/spring combos it's obvious that the springs are completely different. So unless my springs were rusty and/or saggy (not really a problem where I live) I'd probably keep the OEM spring and...

    strut questions.

I have run Bilsteins on my 2011 EL for 5 years now. They replaced OEM blown-in-the-rear struts, which was like driving on marshmallow roads. The OEM junk provided sea sickness in the back seat, and a downright vomit inducing experience in the 3rd row. The reason I chose the Bils is the stiffer...

Any Off-roaders / wheelers in Expedition ELs? Can we expand the parts aftermarket?

They opened up the t-case and the clutches were burnt to shit, twice in two years. They say that the electronic control module went bad causing it to destroy the clutches. Seems odd that Ford would make two bad modules and I'd be the lucky one to find them both. I'm looking at having to...

    2014 4WD problems galore

Have you tested to see if your 4WD actually works? I've had nothing but trouble with my 2011 as well. I just posted a thread about my issues, but I have a feeling that very few people actually use the "4WD" system in these trucks so Ford can afford to not really make reliable...

    2011 EL 4wd completely inoperable

I've had nothing but problems with this truck's "4wd" system for the last few years. First issue in 2014 was when it started shaking and stuttering when in 4A and turning. Took it to the dealer who said that the electronic module was bad and caused the 4wd to be on all the time, thus...

Any Off-roaders / wheelers in Expedition ELs? Can we expand the parts aftermarket?

I got stuck in 1" of mud (with front tires on the road) in my "4wd" Expidition EL, so the thought of off-roading at all gives me a bit of panic. The only off-road I want to do is to accidentally let it roll off a cliff. I think I got a lemon though, had the transfer case rebuild twice so far...

    Spark Plugs, no more BS

I remember doing the plugs on my '03. I think I still have some scars on my hands from that (not to mention some emotional scars from thinking I'd never get those damn plugs out). I also remember blowing a plug out while driving in the middle of Yellowstone NP, good times.

Who has the highest mileage Eco Boost?

Lots of guys with well over 200k. Doesn't mean nobody has had one break down, everyone treats vehicles differently. If you treat it well and maintain it, there's no reason it won't last...

    4wd and TSC

I've tried on flat ground in the snow, when I hit the gas the rears spin (I can hear them) and the fonts don't, the TCS flashes, the RPMs drop. I've done this multiple times in my Expedition. That said I've had the t-case rebuilt twice, and the control module (blamed for the t-case self...

    4wd and TSC

In my 03 there was a noticeable clunk and then the rears would stop spinning and the truck would pull ahead. On the 11 the rears stop spinning and the car sits still. Maybe it's technically in 4wd at that moment, but it isn't going anywhere because TCS closed the throttle and it's idling :D

Anyone ever use powerstop slotted rotors/pads

Slots and holes in rotors are mostly a gimmick. A good set of pads, with a good set of solid rotors will work just fine. Any notion that holes and slots are going to help stop fade are false. Maybe back in the old days when brake pads would out-gas a lot at high temps, but modern break pads...

    4wd and TSC

I've witnessed the same on my '11 Expedition. When in snow at low speed, or from a stand-still if the rear tires start to spin the TCS light flashes, the throttle is shut and no more power. All of this happens before the 4A kicks in the transfer case. It's caused me to get stuck once before and...

2016 side exit exhaust (rear muffler delete)

Snow-nuts (though it doesn't look like there's snow around OP's place)

2016 side exit exhaust (rear muffler delete)

Looks so much better than factory. That's something that's bothered me about the ecoboost Expeditions from the day they released. The factory exhaust looks like a really cheap backyard hack job, and your backyard hackjob looks better than factory :D

    Dexos Oil

I wonder what 3000 NYC Cab miles is in hours compared to say 3000 highway miles. I'm guessing lots of idling and stop & go traffic will wear all components faster than the average vehicle. Really there's only one way to be sure how long a given engine can go with a given oil...

How are the Different Horsepower Rating for the 3.5 EcoBoost Accomplished?

"only" in comparison to the things being compared. Yes 420 lb-ft of torque is much more than lots of old trucks used to have, and is more than enough for the Navi. My point is that quoting peak HP of one engine vs another in two entirely different types of vehicle doesn't mean anything. The...

How are the Different Horsepower Rating for the 3.5 EcoBoost Accomplished?

That engine has 475hp but only 420 lb-ft of torque. The Navigator has 450 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. HP sells cars, torque moves cars, and a big heavy SUV needs all the torque it can get.

    4WD issues back..... again...

That's what Ford told me. Two bad PCMs in two years. So either Ford had a problem with PCMs or they blame the magical electronics which can't be disputed

    4WD issues back..... again...

I've had the 4WD electronic control module replaced twice (along with complete rebuild of the transfer case) because the module told the tcase to go into 4wd all the time and wore it out. That's what Ford told me at least. This thing never seems to work right. In 4wheel auto if the rears start...

Had a good tow day today...pics

It's a really old Reese WDH where the round bars go through slotted holes. The holes in the head were getting oval from wear (it was old when I got it and I put maybe 5000 miles on it). This would cause it to clunk when turning or braking.

Had a good tow day today...pics

I didn't either until I got an Equal-i-zer when my old system started to wear out. It's like night and day towing with it vs the old chain and friction sway setup. I got mine for under $500 shipped.
