Coolant was changed last winter durring a radiator replacement.
Tuesday the 29th it wouldn't start in the am. After work put noid lights on coil and injector harness. Also fuel pressure gauge. Noid lights flashed but no fuel pressure.
Pulled pump relay and jumpered connections. Got pressure...
Drove with fuel pressure gauge. Pressure is stable during stumble. I replaced both battery cables and cleaned all ground connections to chassis and frame under the hood. I replaced the fuel injectors too. So far it isn't throwing codes and runs much better. Will run a couple tanks of premium and...
Truck runs pretty good for 321,000 miles. Slight stumble up hills until downshift occurs. May have some carbon build up on the valves too. Will run a couple tanks of premium through it and update again.
Got the new cables on. Cleaned the under hood grounds. Runs much better. Injectors are going in as soon as it cools enough to be compfortable to work on it.
Yard work took me away from the truck today. Putting it up on jack stands in the AM to inspect that harness.
The trans fluid is still red and smells fresh.
Thank you. I have new battery cables coming. They are very corroded and I will be able to clean all the ground connections durring installation. Just recently the OD off light started flashing. When I put it in Neutral and shut it off then restart, while driving, the OD off light stops flashing...
Can anyone tell me where all the chassis grounds are located? 99 EB with 5.4 4x4. With the stalling and multiple codes of different areas makes me think I have a ground issue. Crawling under truck and tracing wires today.
Friday morning it stalled and wouldn't start right away. Barely had any pressure when I pressed the fuel rail valve. Let sit a few minutes and it fired up. Had 1/8 tank. Thinking pump damaged from ethanol. Replacing fuel pump and filters this coming weekend and will post results.
Sorry. The crap is the E15 ethanol blend. Wasn't marked clearly in the pump and was 5 cents cheaper than regular unleaded. That's when stalling started.
Checked the plugs, no vacuum leaks found, put a vacuum pump on egr and it opens and closes as it should.
It has a new fuel filter. The fuel pressure is within specs when driving. It didn't stall when fuel gauge was installed though.
The tps is responsive and seems within spec on my scanner when driving.
I ran two tanks of this crap in my 99 with a 5.4 auto EB edition. I think it added to my running troubles. I have cleaned the MAF, replaced a cracked exhaust manifold and upstream 02 sens. New coils and boots, PCV valve/hose assembly, and fuel filter.
When driving it feels like it has an...
I have a '99 with 318k and found a complete set of coil/boot assemblies on Amazon for cheap. Use anti-seize and torque the plugs to spec. Should be good for another 100k miles.
Remember to blow out the plug wells after breaking the plugs loose.
I think it depends on what year and options you have. Some cylinders I found it is easier to spin the injector out of the way and others I never touch. Also I put anti- seize on the plugs to help future removal and with wires out of the way it doesn't get on them and on your hands.
Just unplug the fuel injectors and spin them out of the way. You will be able to reach the coil bolts and the plugs. It is tight and time consuming but very doable.
Thanks for the reply. I ordered a new antenna from ford this morning. When I got in my truck to go to work, it was working just fine. As it turns out the the problem was the radio station. Canceled the order and will see if it keeps working.
Hi folks,
I have recently replaced my radio antenna with a mast off a '97 Explorer. Now I am having trouble with the RDS read out for certain stations that I believe read fine before the switch. Does anyone know if the RDS system requires a specific antenna?
