Thinking of a 2022/2023 Expedition XLT or Limited

Unless it won't fit in your garage, I'd definitely consider getting the MAX - that extra storage room in the back is IMHO essential if you're going on a family trip somewhere. I've always gotten the longer version of any 3 row SUV I've ever had and in some cars it makes a huge storage...

    Transmission Fluid change

The below post has a lot of discussion on the same topic. Of my note, since you're only partially draining the pan, I ran the math on the number of times to drain and fill to get you to a reasonable amount of new fluid. I chose to do 3 drain and refills when I did mine (drain, refill, start &...

    2012 EL XLT expansion valve??

Fortunately my '12 is original and still working great so I've not had to touch it. Hmmm... I thought expansion valves were abandoned in cars years ago. I've had Fords since 1984 that had orifices (sometime integral in one of the hoses), but no valves. Are we talking the same part?

    Intermittent no crank no start

There was a lengthy post here with more broad symptoms for some folks: https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/pats-issue-no-start-no-crank.46705/page-3#post-452974 In my case it turned out to be the connection between the ECU and the harness. The ECU is in the engine compartment - IMHO a very...

Should be a little more than 40% by my calcs (7.5/13) in the event that helps.

    Tranny Service

Thanks for the input gents. Regarding the fluid, there was no smell, but it was a good shade of brown (hard to see any red in it). I agree, likely I'm fine, but with a lift in my detached garage, and now a drain plug in the pan - it's too easy to swap the fluid out especially considering the...

    Tranny Service

The Valvoline Multi-Vehicle is explicitly Dextron VI, Mercon LV and DEX/MERC qualified as well as others. The question was for how many bleed and feeds, but thanks for the tip on the pan.

    Tranny Service

Drove for the first time today. All was well - a couple of early shifts firm (perhaps the learning phase someone mentioned). After cleaning up and looking at the old fluid in a clear jar, I'm going to change more. I've run numbers with the feed and bleed approach. Since 7.5 quarts (out of...

    Tranny Service

Today I changed my tranny fluid. I used the Valvoline Multi-Vehicle ATF full Synthetic. It was a messy job - no matter how careful, you can't focus the pan drain in a small area. Even with 3 buckets, likely I lost close to a quart on the floor. It was a little over 102K miles. The fluid had...

PATS issue, no start, no crank.

Ran several errands yesterday, multiple restarts. No issues. Looking Like the connection was the issue. Good luck to others with these symptoms.

PATS issue, no start, no crank.

@Vtomic - sounds like they are not troubleshooting - just hunting and pecking. What idiots - when the PATs is replaced they have to enable the keys to the new system (as I understand it). Are you saying they haven't done that yet? If the keys are not recognized, then of course it won't run...

PATS issue, no start, no crank.

Update on my situation... Ignition switch checked out fine - this leaves the ECM/PCM or the transmission switch. The symptoms are now very repeatable. After two starts and runs (for just a few minutes) - most times the 3rd attempt to start is a no-crank - always the 4th attempt will not...

    Intermittent no crank no start

check this out - I'm having the same issues. Maybe we can combine the posts... https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/pats-issue-no-start-no-crank.46705/page-3

PATS issue, no start, no crank.

Update - I finally did test - when manually energizing the starter solenoid (either by running 12V across the solenoid) or simply pulling the relay in the relay/fuse box front of the engine compartment (just behind the radiator) and jumping the contacts - it cranks and fires up every time. It...

    Interior Dash Paint

Too bad no answer. I have a similar problem with my '012 EL XLT horn pad. It is very tacky/sticky. Today I took vinegar and water - it helped remove some of the crap stuck to it - but did not improve the surface finish. It's not as bad as fly paper (I'll bet 90% of you reading this have no...

PATS issue, no start, no crank.

NEW ISSUE - Not sure if PATS or not. The PATS lights are functioning properly. A couple of weeks ago, I had intermittent no crank symptoms. Turn the key, nothing (however all lights, fan, other "ON" functions fine). The first few events I'd simply turn the key back off, then back on and it...

    100,000 Mile Service Advise Needed

I concur with 07navi - but... I just did plugs at 101K, the old ones were fine (gap 0.042 - 0.043) - very little wear. I think per his implication 80K is not needed (at lease I don't think so with my '012 OEM plugs). In hindsight I'd wait until misfire. I did the boots as well although the...

    5.4L 3-valve spark plug gap?

100,900 miles and I just replaced the plugs. These new style Ford OEM plugs are excellent - very little wear. The as-found gap was 0.042 to 0.043. If I'd known this I'd have probably kept on driving until misfire. At least I'm good for another 100K.

    Oil and Filter time...

And trust me - with petroleum oil you'll also be fine at 7,500 mile intervals. The quality of the additive packages these day are phenomenal. SG was quite the improvement over the SC, SD and SE of the 60s and 70s. SN oils of 2010 blew the old stuff away. The manufacturers typically require...

    Oil and Filter time...

WOW - my intent to provide objective information to affirm or endorse a practice many espouse has turned into the classic my way is good - your way is bad. I apologize - that was not my intent. Why can't we just share information rather than tell each other 'their is only one way'. As a point...

    Oil and Filter time...

There is also the environmental impact. If we dump 5 times the oil to the dumps, that's actually a potentially significant impact. To each his/her own - I just wanted to share what I thought was an enlightening methodology by Mobil oil.

I found an interesting YouTube blog that goes into Mobil1 20,000 mile oil and how they test the product to meet that claim. I was quite impressed with the rigor and science by which they test the products to validate the ratings...

Oil Life - What would you do?

Recognize intervals are to protect the manufacturer's interests. They are NOT an interval picked on failure analysis or large sampling of the oils drained from the Ford dealers so they can tweak their interval. Large fleets use analysis to validate that the oil is performing as needed at...

Oil Life - What would you do?

I run extended intervals on synthetic oil as a result of oil analysis (have in many cars for many years). If you search on my name, you can find the posts and review the results. Please no denigrating remarks from those that choose to do differently.
