metal on metal sound while moving

I think it was the rear brakes. I took the pads off to look at the parking brake shoes and they are fine. I was going to replace the break pads anyways since I just bought new ones. They still have about 69% left in them. Then I realized the guy at the parts store gave me the front pads instead...

metal on metal sound while moving

Been a crazy week so wasnt able to get to it yet. I just returned from the parts store though, with new brake pads. We will know shortly if it's the brakes. Sure hope it is.

metal on metal sound while moving

I raised the rear of the truck last night and spun the tires but no noise while spinning the rear wheels. However, I totally forgot about the rear parking brake pads. I haven't ever looked at those on this truck. The parking brake does not hold the truck at all, so they are either way out of...

Drove it around in 4hi/lol. Still makes the noise.

Checked the rear pads today and they are fine.

metal on metal sound while moving

I am hearing a metal on metal sound like when brake pads are worn down completely and the metal backing is rubbing the rotor. I have checked the brake pads and they are fine (recently replaced). I checked for play in the wheel bearing assembly but it feels fine. If I jack up the truck and...

    Sleeping Platform

It has been working perfectly. I've been extremely pleased with it. I just finished a 2 day hunting/camping trip in 20 degree temps and it was very comfy. I have have used it about 30 times so far and its working really well. I do a lot of hunting, fishing, and camping. The drawers still slide...

    Fiberglass hood

Thank guys. It's growing on me. I need this weather to cool down so I can get started on the body work. The heat really helped push the fiberglass into shape though. There is just one small spot where it is a little high compared to the fender.

    Sleeping Platform

Was going to cover with rubber mat but changed my mind and went ahead and covered it in indoor/outdoor carpet. I like how it looks and feels, time will tell if I like how it holds up.

    Transmission Upgrade? Additives, etc

When I got my 1998 236k mile expedition, I was given a mag hytec high capacity transmission pan. Here is a link to the pan. http://mag-hytec.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_6&products_id=5 Heat is the number one killer of auto transmissions and the extra 7.6 quarts of...

    Sleeping Platform

Finally finished painting the platform. Now I'm going to load it up and see how much the drawers will hold and how well the drawers still slide when loaded. The white marks on the back of the top piece are the holes for the pocket screws.

Man I like that liner in the back. I need one of those to put under my sleeping platform.

I will probably be finishing it this weekend, time permitting.

    Sleeping Platform

Here is a pic of the mock up in sketchup. The toggle clamp secures the two pieces together so it is a solid piece when using the sleeping platform. I am welding some d-rings to the floor of the SUV to attach straps or turnbuckles, for securing the platform in place. Here is a shot of the...

    Dyno'd New Engine

When I travel, it's usually somewhere far away. All the places I like to go are at least 10 hours from me. I also like to travel at least 75mph on the highway so I can spend more time playing and less time driving. That's just me, and I'm not changing now. (c: I don't care about gas mileage at...

    Sleeping Platform

I've started building a sleeping platform. I'm using my 97 expy as an overlanding vehicle. I do a great deal of hunting, fishing, and camping and love having everything I need right in my truck. I saw a post on the expedition portal forum of a guy who built a really nice sleeping platform that...

    Fiberglass hood

My uncle gave me his 236k mile 97 Expedition. I have since added a monster transmission and a new engine. When my uncle gave me the Expedition he had some parts that came with it. A mag-hytec high capacity transmission pan and a fiberglass hood. I wasn't sure about the hood but I felt obligated...

I'm looking for some new rear shocks. How is the ride quality from the new rancho shocks.

    Dyno'd New Engine

    I put some values in an rpm calculator: 3.73 @ 75mph = 2122 RPM 4.30 @ 75mph = 2400 RPM 4.56 @ 75mph = 2595 RPM 2595RPM's @ 75MPH is a little high.

    Dyno'd New Engine

I'm having a hard time deciding on 4.56 or 4.88 for the gears. I like to travel in this and not sure if 4.88's and 31" tires are a good fit for the highway.

    Dyno'd New Engine

I guess I should have titled it "Dyno Tuned new engine". You don't have to tune on a dyno but it safer and easier. I don't care about the HP numbers, I wanted some torque to haul a boat and for the truck to move more quickly when merging into traffic. Which with 345TQ to the rear wheels it does...

    Dyno'd New Engine

Last year I bought a long block from Modular Head Shop for my 97 EB 4wd. The stage 1, 5.4 with ported PI heads. I had a hard time finding someone to tune the engine. Nobody around Oklahoma wanted to purchase the equipment to tune the older fords with the SCT tuner. I finally found a guy, Bo at...
