Help, california is insane, mpg mods needed

Has anyone ever tried running or been so overheated that the car kicked into emergency mode and ran on 4 cylinders? I've seen this brought up a few times here and there. It seems the consensus is that this isn't a viable way to get better gas mileage for a number of reasons but desperate...

When selling cars, how do you get paid safely, anyway?

Not that I have ever used these for car buying but just something to think about. You may be able to use services such as Zelle, Paypal, Venmo, or MoneyGram to send money online. The buyer can send from their phone and you can see it right there before ever handing over the keys. The downsides...

Help, california is insane, mpg mods needed

So from the sounds of your situation, this idea probably won't work but you could try running E85. The catch is, you need a tune and/or tuner to make it work properly which both cost a decent amount. Whether this is a viable option or not, here is a little info. I run E85 regularly and lose...

    New headlight bulb recommendations?

Just be careful with the HID's. In some states (VA I'm pretty sure), it's illegal to put an HID bulb in an enclosure not built for it due to the aforementioned blinding

    Leaking Passenger Exhaust Manifold 4.6L

I've used Remflex gaskets. They do the job well. Had an exhaust leak due to poor quality gaskets and the remflex ones fixed it. I'm even missing one of the bolts on the passenger side and they don't leak. Might be worth a shot. As always, results may vary. Good luck!

What’s you’re avg. mpg in your expy

Averaged 13.3 over the last 10,000 miles. That's approximately 46% stop & go, 54% highway driving. Currently at almost 250,000 miles. I log all my fill-ups on fueleconomy.gov. For those with the time/interest, it might be cool if more people update their MPG here...

How bad to do the timing chains?

Shouldn't be too hard of a job really, just time consuming. Some may recommend putting in a new oil pump too since you're going to be in there anyways. Don't forget a tool to hold the camshafts. Otherwise the second that chain is off it could rocket a valve into a piston. Enginetech looks like a...

'08 King Ranch really this slow?

So I managed to import some of what you logged into SCT's Livelink program to view. First the obvious, the cat temps looked good, at least the ECM thought so. So we know the ECM isn't doing anything to mess with those. When it came to the spark advance it was a little difficult to tell if it was...

'08 King Ranch really this slow?

Sweet! I love data. I'm looking over it now. If you can log it, get engine load as well. I didn't see it in the CSV file. The ultimate timing that is run is determined primarily by Load and RPM.

'08 King Ranch really this slow?

Hopefully the data shows something. If not then I'm with Adieu, could be as simple as your plugs, coils, and injectors are old. Those are always worth replacing regularly.

    OT--Insomnia?

Every once in a while I have bouts of sleepless nights. Not to the extent you described though. I tend to spend a lot of time on my computer and phone before bed. If you do the same, Windows 10 has a built in "night light" to filter blue light. It makes a noticeable difference on my level of...

'08 King Ranch really this slow?

Having not used Torque Pro before, I can't tell you with certainty what features it has. Based off its Google Play store description, it does allow you to log the data from various vehicle sensors and send it to your computer to view in excel. It is immensely helpful when troubleshooting an...

'08 King Ranch really this slow?

Could be your timing is getting pulled when the engine heats up. Could also be you have a leak in your exhaust, before the O2 sensors. If cleaning your MAF made a huge difference you may have been running lean beforehand. Not only would this cause sluggish acceleration but an increased...

    Charging System

Typically when it comes to charging system issues, troubleshooting with a multi-meter is the place to start. The charging system light is set to come on when it senses the vehicle voltage drop below a certain point for X amount of time. Given that you have a new battery and alternator, I would...

What is this thing??? Mystery part on SSV

It looks like it is part of the A/C system though. Possibly this: Found here: http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2009,expedition,5.4l+v8,1443966,heat+&+air+conditioning,a/c+refrigerant+hose,6900. As sjwelds said, follow the lines and you will know for sure.

front end rubbing/grinding noise 2002 Expedition

I had a friend with a an old Taurus that made a "wum wum wum" noise which increased and decreased with speed. We called it the pod racer because it sounded like a Star Wars pod racer. It turned out to be a bad wheel bearing. Knew someone else with a 2010 focus that had the same noise (though not...

I really need o2 sensor help!!!

Solely based on the codes you provided, it is not a transmission issue. P0136 looks like an O2 sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2) and P1151 seems to be the upstream bank 2 sensor indicating lean. A cursory glance online shows the best place to begin would be checking for vacuum leaks...

    Electric radiator fans

For someone like me who is in the engine bay a lot, the space savings electric fans offer was valuable in itself. No more working around the massive fan shroud

    4.6l spark knock or?

Hard to say without hearing it and I know you mentioned it was in the upper end drivers side but it might be worth checking for exhaust leaks. Exhaust leaks can make a similar ticking noise. Just my $0.02

What is behind access panel on left rear quarter interior ?

I've got a 2000 EB 4WD that came with air suspension. Unless there was some major change, the air compressor is in the engine bay. Passenger side, front, underneath the windshield wiper fluid. By left side of the cargo area are you referring to passenger or driver side? If I'm remembering...

Air susp compressor runs more often?

Sounds like the best thing to do is just start checking things out, making sure everything is where it should be. Maybe spraying some soapy water on the air bags to rule out leaks. I never had this issue with the factory compressor, only an aftermarket one I bought when the first went out. It...

    EGR

Every car will react differently but theoretically, if you remove the EGR you'll probably see a small increase in HP at cruising loads when the valve is typically open the most. If my info. is correct, the EGR valve closes the higher the load because the richer A/F ratio reduces NOx. At WOT it's...

    Electric radiator fans

My apologies, I misinterpreted. In that case I'll offer what I have learned. I'm assuming these are the fans you found: https://www.flex-a-lite.com/dual-15-inch-s-blade-electric-fan-system-with-full-shroud-and-variable-speed-controller.html. The first set of fans I had were dual 13 in. pulling...

    Electric radiator fans

Sorry I'm late to the party but my suggestion, get a good fan controller. Not sure what yours may have come with but if you're interested, check out pulse width modulator fan controllers. They're expensive (~$150) but they vary fan RPM based on temp. instead of being On/Off at a certain...
