I'm ordering gaskets for my used engine I'm swapping in... It's out of a 97 and when I look up the intake gaskets it asks if it's a before or after 7-20-97 engine??? I'm not sure of the manufacturer date on this engine...
What are the differences in the gaskets??
I will never understand why people do idiotic dangerous things to save $45... If you can't or won't spend the $ to fix it properly just park it.
It's not hitting the road again for awhile! It's getting a thorough going over and lots of wrench time.
I am currently completely going through it...on top of engine work I knew about, it's getting brakes all around, upper and lower trailing arms, track bar, shocks ( some of this will probably be taken care of by a lift kit) and a few other small things.
I knew it was in rough shape but I drove it...
My boat has points system on it! I purchased the vehicle in it's current condition.
I will probably be swapping in a good used engine due to time and the miles on the current engine. The other 7 plugs we're all very worn (not to mention it had 3 different types of plugs in it). Smallest gap...
Already swapped in the new ones today. The ride is 150 percent quieter and stiffer!
That is the dust shield rotted away. Looks like it was rubbing on the brake disc for awhile.
This is my #6 plug out of my 97 5.4...cylinder was and is dead/very weak. Compression in the 35ish psi range give or take a few.
Never have I seen a plug melt completely away like that.
They are just OEM style but fairly stout. I am going to be looking into putting a lift on it at some point and then will be getting solid control arms.
Yes I will take some pics today when I get home. I'm actually changing them out today. Got both uppers online for $45 shipped. I don't understand why people do stupid dangerous things to there vehicles over $45
Definitely questionable!! Lol. It was one of those I got it from a friend's cousins brother and it's always been well maintained deals. But for $275 I guess I can put a little $ and time into it. But as I tear into it I find more and more things wrong... Like rear up upper trailing arms made...
I'm a diesel mechanic for a living, not afraid to tear into it! Just never personally pulled a head on one of these... But from watching a few YouTube videos it looks like I could definitely pull the engine and drop in a used WAY quicker than the head job and probably around the same $ depending...
97 5.4 XLT, 225K miles, white with a weird green color interior, rust on door bottoms and a dead cylinder, drove it 100 miles home at 70+ mph been sitting over a year...$275 to drive away with it!! Need quite a bit of TLC at the moment but not a bad deal
Cyl #6 is dead/very weak... Compression check on 5 and 7 come up 145ish give or take a few! #6 however had a whole 32 psi. Has spark has fuel.
I just bought it... 97 XLT 5.4 225k miles. Changed plugs and coils. All the plugs were burnt up pretty bad, not to mention there were 3 different...
