    It does sound like it’s coming from inside the transmission. Although it seems to me more audible in the rear. The noise could just be traveling down the drive shaft. I have 282,000 miles.

    I drove it to the gas station, put in a full tank, came back and 3 miles later, everything is fine, no major leaks. I haven't noticed the fuel smell. I will continue to monitor.

    I went with: Spectra Premium SP2131M Fuel Pump Assembly. I don't know what makes it premium. But it's one step up from their other model. I got it off Amazon prime. I only had to pay $10 extra for overnight shipping.

    I had strong fuel smell. Seemed to come from the rear passenger wheel well area. I took off the fuel tank. Picture is related. I'm waiting on my overnight shipping on a new fuel pump. I thought that it could have just been the gasket. I broke a piece of the fuel pump taking it out.
