Heh, I kind of pulled something like that when I turned in my explorer- the exhaust had broken (cheap fix) and since it was so damn loud, you couldn't hear the timing chains, which was the much much more expensive problem! I'd feel bad about it, if the car I'd traded it in for hadn't also died :/- Prince_Polaris

My mechanic friend (who's working on fixing up the van right now) told me to "take it and run" so I did! he was only gonna be able to give me $1700 on a trade-in for a 2006 Yukon XL Denali but I don't wanna deal with a car payment right after dad's lost his job so I'm just drivin' grandma's van :)- Prince_Polaris

I figured I should update this! Expy is gone, I sold the poor thing for $2500 on facebook, I guess that's an all right price... That sure ain't enough for a new car though, which would probably just last one year before dying again, so now I'm driving my grandma's 1988 conversion van...- Prince_Polaris

Is cylinder 1 the closest one to the front of the car on the passenger side? If so, then... yeah. We broke it. Man, that's how much my 98 explorer with a detached exhaust (that conviently hid the timing chain trying to tear itself apart) was worth while trading it in on this thing lol I suppose it would be okay to drive until I can afford a new engine, wouldn't it? So! Turns out a good bit of my power loss has to do with Cylinder 1 having 50psi of compression instead of 100psi. Anyone got a 2003 5.4L Triton V8 for about $600? I might as well never buy a car again, I overpaid on a 98 explorer that proceeded to have way-too-expensive-to-fix timing chain...- Prince_Polaris

Nope, it wasn't the sparkplug that mechanic #3 had to tie down cause #2 broke the clip! It was one of the rear ones...- Prince_Polaris

It's quite an experience being able to pull a spark plug out of your engine without any tools or disassembly, I just pulled 'er right on out of there, as far as I know the plug is still sitting in the cupholder! At least it came out in one piece...- Prince_Polaris

Well, haha, I think it's the cats. Expy decided he was going to throw one of the rear spark plugs out of itself, so since my insurance came with towing, he's at the mechanic and he'll be seen on Monday. All I did was try to start it, and POP!- Prince_Polaris

I might have to get them do the test, because nope, I don't got a Schrader valve :( You think it's the cats, though? Like, is the ticking sound actually normal? At least it sure isn't that nasty clattering that my poor explorer's timing chain was making lol- Prince_Polaris

Well, now I feel dumb for not thinking of just doing that... I guess I just didn't consider the idea of buying a whole latch instead of just the spring!
