    Question on Sway and Tires

I had similar white knuckle driving with a 2013 (no loose steering wheel though.) I went with sumo springs back, Bilsteins all around (4600s I think), LT tires around 80psi, and an Equalizer hitch, and now I can tow pretty fast (although you can still feel it during windy situations that would...

Trailer Sway Control (TSC) "fighting" Andersen WDH?

I had an Andersen WDH and it was horrible. I had to tighten it past the recommended 4 threads, but it couldn’t really distribute the weight. It also didn’t really help with sway. So I sold it and got an Equalizer 12k, and towing with it is night and day difference over the Andersen. You can...

Thoughts after first tow, and how fast do you tow?

Use an Equalizer, 6-7 washers. Add Sumo springs, decent tires. If you have good tires on the trailer you can get up to 70 safely (even with 2 adults, 5 kids in the Expy). I’ve towed several times with my 2013 Expy, tow package, and a Retro Riverside 265. A good properly setup WDH makes all the...

    LT Tires and Towing

When towing I run my LT in the 70s; running at 44 would seem too low. Also what WDH did you go with?

Any other shocks available besides Ford OEM and Bilstein?

Soft and floaty is more apt to make my family car sick, plus the Bilsteins provide a firmer controller ride for towing. But I could see how some people might want something different. I think some people have mentioned in the past that they like Rancho shocks better.

    2016 Expedition Strut Replacement

Or 4600s if you don’t want any lift :)

    2018 bilstein shock replacement

I run 4600s on my 2013 and the ride is a little stiffer and the handling is better. 5100s are for adjusting for lift.

Anyone towing a 26+’ enclosed trailer with their 4th Gen?

Sounds like you need a WDH as that’s the most stable way to eliminate squat.

    Changing 2018 from 3.31 to 3.73

Also use a good WDH, like an Equal-I-zer. It will help reduce white knuckle driving. It wouldn’t hurt to have LT tires, good shocks (bilstein 4600s) and SumoSpring helpers.

    Are bilsteins really worth it?

Bilstein 4600s worked better than stock on my 2013. Less rebound, less floaty. More control and cornering, and helped a little with towing.

2014 Limited Short Wheel Base versus EL towing

How many washers are you using? I see some squat so i think you might get a little more stability and less waggle if you add a washer or two.

    Heated/Cooled seats problem identified

That’s the first thing I did with my 2013 when I got it. I bought a new plugin and soldered it in with an extra ground wire so it wouldn’t burn out. Still works 50k miles later.

    Differential question

Back to an earlier comment, the stock tires aren’t the best for towing. So if this appears to be a tire issue, you might explore going to an LT tire with better traction.

The 5.4L 3-valve "mileage vs symptoms" thread!

2013 Limited HD Tow 96,000ish Bought 40,000ish Replaced heated/cooled seats plugin to the controller because it’s ground burned out (common problem I’ve read) Drivers side seat controls panel snaps broke (have it wire tied up) Shift servo or something on the tranny recently replaced due to...

    Tow Package Question

    Bilstein 4600s are nice shocks/struts.

    Towing power

    My 2013 with HD tow didn’t come with a 3.73 so I bet there’s a chance your 2010 might just have a 3.31.

    Towing problems

Good. Didn’t really impact the ride much except to be less floaty. If you still have sag with your hitch, you may need to add another washer or two. There shouldn’t be any sag, or at least the sag should be evenly distributed across all four wheels.

    Towing problems

Yeah Equalizer hitch fixed most (if not all) of my issues. I no long want a truck that bad (but I do wish I had the 3.73 differential. I know those hitches can be pricy and the setup is challenging, but it really made a difference.

    Towing problems

My near perfect towing setup is: 2013 Limited with HD tow Equalizer 12k WDH LT truck tires (Falken Wildpeaks); aired up to almost 80psi when towing Sumospring helpers on the back Bilstein 4600s (front and back) My Retro 265 probably weighs close to 6k loaded and I can get up to 70+ will minimal...

    SumoSpring Coil Helpers

Maybe, certainly easy enough to try. But a WDH still might be helpful.

    SumoSpring Coil Helpers

My towing “build” (which has pretty much eliminated white knuckle driving): 2013 Limited with HD Tow Falken Wildpeaks (LT tires, aired close to 80psi when towing) Bilstein 4600 shocks/struts Sumo Springs (rear only) Equal-I-zer 12k E4 I tow a Riverside Retro 265, and can hit 75mph if I want...
