    Possible Expedition Owner

But I thought “Quality is job 1”??!! Oh wait, that was a few years ago…. We bought a 2018 Limited because of towing capability. Plus all of the wonderful features, and we had a 2003 that had 218,000 miles that was a great vehicle, and we loved it. The 2018 is SO much better! But against my...

row of red LEDs on dash in front of driver

If you consistently see this while driving then you have a personal problem.

10R80 Fluid Change Project Creep, New PPE pan.

Sorry, no, I did not have any clearance issues. I might have to get back under there and take a look to make sure I have clearance. Glad my write up was helpful!

    LED tail lights seep moisture

As I understand it, they are not “sealed“. I often have condensation inside. I was told it was perfectly normal. Hasn’t hurt anything in over four years. And, it has helped cure my OCD! I ignore it now.

    Blower motor questions

Is the cabin air filter clean? Simple, I know, but I had my son-in-law not change his for over 100,000 miles! True story…

Alarm randomly going off for no reason?

This is what happens to us. Especially while camping. Flies set off the internal alarm. Fortunately gnats do not. You can turn off the inside alarm, but it defaults to on the next time you shut the vehicle off. Maybe you can turn it off with forscan.

    Global Window Open & Close

Be careful what you wish for. Mine would, at random, put my windows down in the middle of the night. After the third time, and after getting 2 inches of snow inside of my vehicle, I turned Global open off

    Where to buy OEM parts

When I replaced my thermostat with a motorcraft I was surprised to find that there was no thermostat gasket included. Be sure you have a gasket on hand.

This will likely be my last ford

This is so sad. I have a 2018 that is 1 week away from being a 2019. Glad I have a metal oil pan!! I see all these issues and shake my head. Most lemon laws have a “time” clause so one down for six months would get you a new one or a refund. We have had the front shocks replaced for leaking...

When should head gaskets be serviced?

Oh! And I removed the big mouse nest that was on top of the block between the heads

When should head gaskets be serviced?

I did this a few years back on my 2003. Had some pitting on the heads were the intake seal was. Filled it with JB weld, then stone smooth. Yes your spark plugs, and your valve cover gaskets. I did the alternator as I still had the original on there. That was probably not necessary. Have fun and...

    wireless key

“Battery tested good” doesn’t really mean anything. A year and a half ago I had mine checked three times for door handle locks and interior lights not working right or at all. Over 9 days at the dealer doing a deep charge and battery check. It would work for two or three days after I got it...

Engine Temp gauge has large temperature swings in seconds between 205 and 226 degrees

Yes, replace your thermostat. Pretty easy job. The new Motorcraft design is said to be 190°, but the Celsius reading stamped on the thermostat indicates it is still 195°. Even so I’ve seen a more constant temperature.

Trans fluid change that won't end..... Rant alert

I recently did this as a DIY. Replaced the plastic pan with a PPE. At 26K miles my plastic pan had a large bubble deformity, but the sealing area was flat. Even so I would never reuse this pan. The seal seemed fine, and I reused it with no issues. I did replace all the other seals and the...

    What fuel do you use?

Top Tier, always. 87 Ethanol usually. I get almost exactly 10% better mileage with 91 ethanol free. Always Premium when towing.

    Deep Trans Pan Issues?

I saw this issue on the F150 forum when I was doing my research and deciding which aluminum pan to use. I opted for the standard pan and that seems to have gone very well. PPE has evidently redesigned their deep pan to allow more clearance in this area. I would suggest that you contact them and...

10R80 Fluid Change Project Creep, New PPE pan.

The trip home went better. Daytime highs in the low 80’s. Still had a 25 mph head wind from the south east. Had two checks under 7 mpg, So she was working harder than before. It amazes me that it seems like she is pulling the load so easily but uses so much fuel. I never saw a transmission temp...

    Turbo wastegate questions

I have never heard the waste gate rattle on my 2018 with 27000 miles. If a brand new one does it, then it is normal. If it is very noisy and the brand new one does not do it, then it is not normal and I would be contacting an attorney. Sounds like a class action lawsuit just waiting to happen.

10R80 Fluid Change Project Creep, New PPE pan.

Long towing trip, about 7500 lb travel trailer, observations: The high temperature on this day was 95°, quartering 25 mph headwind. Speed 65 mph. Transmission temperatures were lower by 4-6°, not as much as I was hoping for. She wanted to run at 212°. We had a few moderate inclines, and the...

10R80 Fluid Change Project Creep, New PPE pan.

I didn’t see a reason why it wouldn’t work. From my understanding PPE increased clearances on the high capacity pan fixing a potential problem I saw in the F150 forum. Just be sure you get the improved design if you go this route.

10R80 Fluid Change Project Creep, New PPE pan.

I did use a pump to drain the pan before I pulled it. Saves a big mess! But be careful! Only putting back in what came out only works if it was filled properly at the factory. This was my first one that wasn’t correct, and I have done many, including several CVT’s.

10R80 Fluid Change Project Creep, New PPE pan.

Correct. There is plenty of clearance after everything is laced back up. But loosening the transmission bolts was not easy. They were torqued down pretty good, and I had to use a u-joint to get in there. The whole job took me about five hours, but I had a couple of other complications and a...

Joining the Cam Phaser Club! YAY! (ugh)

If they were that dishonest they would have some old cam phasers laying around that they could give to the owner.

10R80 Fluid Change Project Creep, New PPE pan.

It is a little bit thicker, because the aluminum is a little thicker than the plastic. It is hard to tell because of the contours, and I did not do a fluid test, but basic measurements comparing the two pans on the inside seem to be the same.
