    Need help!

I'd start with the basic cheap stuff. Replace the fuel filter. Inspect, regap or replace spark plugs. With the truck running, pull the coils one at a time and see if they all work or if one ha no effect when it's pulled, that's the bad one. There will be vacuum leaks. Take your time and find...

    Need recommendation for exhaust manifold

OEM from Ford is what I used last year. It was ridiculously cheap, $79.51!!! Part # XL3Z9430GA, FOR MY '99 EB 5.4 4x4. I used these bolts from Metric Screw & Toll Company off Ebay. From my research, they make excellent bolts and such. I only paid $7.99 for the kit! They're now even cheaper...

    2002 expedition rust. Need help!

I laughed when I read this. What you have is the equivalent of surface rust on brake rotors after sitting for a couple days here in humid Florida. If you're showing us the worst of it, then you have nothing to worry about! Rust to be worried about is flaking off, pitted, and has holes. You my...

    Bought a 2000 Expedition 4x4 within about a minute...now i'm nervous!

Check ALL the vacuum lines. There are a lot and some are out of sight. I guarantee there are leaking vacuum lines. Either find a schematic or just move line by line diligently.

    Transmission will NOT stop leaking.

You need to slide under the truck with a flashlight, search for the wet oil/fluid spots actually on the underside of the truck, trace back where they may be originating, and take clear pictures of that. So far everyone is blindly trying to diagnose the issue.....

    Buying a used rental

Is this from when you buy it, or from when it was new? There's a big difference.

    Downstream o2 sensor connector

I snapped mine off at the exhaust while trying to remove the sensor! These were not made to be removed unless you remove the exhaust system, at least on my 99!

    transmission swap im lost

I'm in the same boat. My 99 5.4 4x4 needs a new transmission but it make no financial sense to have it rebuilt. I've considered the junkyard option but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. So it sits until I either sell it, rebuild it myself, or get lucky and find something that'll...

    Axle differences

I have a similar "whirling" sound from the rear axle at speed. I'm curious as to what you find/repair.....? 99 5.4 4x4

Dealer Recommends Transmission change at 44K. Is this a money grab?

IMO, changing the engine oil, trans fluid, and coolant more frequently are more beneficial than doing it infrequently and will do the car no harm. Some will say it's a waste of $$$ but think of it as insurance and assurance that you're staying a step ahead. You've got people on the other end who...

I did it... Bought the beast! Makes my Expy look small!

Excellent! After getting an Expedition, I finally understood it all and desired an Excursion ever since!

    Where does the oil go?

I have the same issue. I've found it to be normal with age/mileage of these 5.4's, slight leak at the valve guides/seals which then go poof. Unless you're seeing stains/leaks, I would keep on truck'n! Don't mess with it or you'll open a can of expensive worms!

    4x4 to 4x2?

I may have asked about this back in July but I can't remember. My 99 Expedition EB 5.4 4x4 trans is shot. Friends trans shop quoted $2,800 for a rebuild. No need to go into the cost on this guys, even at 2k, it's just not worth it in my eyes. Here's my question, can I convert the Expy from 4x4...

    oil light coming on uphill

Is there a chaulky residue on the spark plugs? If so, then your ring seals/valve seals....? That's where your oil is going.... The tapping, is the sound progressively louder as you accelerate? Then it's the exhaust manifold gasket. BTW, not everyone is sitting around waiting to answer random...

Help, california is insane, mpg mods needed

You have no, to limited funds, but yet you're slowly putting money into the truck which is only eating away money as fast as you put it in? Driving so as to not move the tach over 2k will help in your mpg. Going over 2k will hurt mpg. It's hard to drive in this way, but it's possible!

Help, california is insane, mpg mods needed

You "share" the truck. No biggie, simply walk away from it. Buy a cheap car for a few hundred dollars or motorcycle. You'll be ahead in no time! Sure, you'll feel/say you'll loose out by giving up the truck. Consider how much $ you'll be continually putting into it if you don't walk away...

Any tips for replacing the right upstream 02 sensor?

On my 5.4, the sensor is elsewhere. Imagine the sensor in this picture is at 12 o'clock, my sensor would be at 3 o'clock, moving towards the engine. There just isn't any room to move a tool one it's managed to be placed on the sensor. I ended up snapping the sensor with the tool from autozone...

How to change O2 sensor 1st edition Expedition/F150

The passenger side top o2 sensor snapped while I tried in vain to remove it with a tool from Autozone! I've found it's impossible to remove it on my 99 Exp 5.4 4x4! There's no way to get any force applied or more than an inch of movement! I gave up about two months ago. This week it will be...

    My 2000 5.4l Eddie Bauer 4x4

Every vehicle now has a beam in the doors. Over time, the bead of caulking used to seal the door skin against the beam separates, causing it to sound horrible when you close the doors. This happened on our MDX. I redid the caulking and it sounded like a high-end suv again! This is an easy...

    My 2000 5.4l Eddie Bauer 4x4

I did this decades ago with my first new car, 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback. I also layered carpet foam insulation over it. The after market stereo system I had sounded better and the doors sounded like a Lexus, but other than that, I didn't feel a difference. But I felt better knowing I had done it!

Any tips for replacing the right upstream 02 sensor?

I just spent some time on it and from what I now see, moving the trans dipstick tube will not do it. It looks like I need to disconnect the exhaust from the manifold, drop the exhaust a bit and maybe then I'll have enough space to actually work the tool around the sensor. I'll get back to it in...

Any tips for replacing the right upstream 02 sensor?

Quick question: 1999 EB 5.4 How do you easily remove the right upstream 02 sensor? I have the wheel shroud removed but there's no room to work with! The angle the sensor sits at, I can't get a wrench in there. I rented the 02 socket tool from Autozone, but I just don't see how to manipulate it...
