Solar battery charge through the 12v socket?

Gotcha. I wondered if that was what you meant. Am mot so sure that is overcharging versus a single battery out of phase with the charge profile. For overcharging, I'd expect a failure in the alternator's ability to limit voltage to 14.8 and apply higher voltages. Although, would not surprise...

Solar battery charge through the 12v socket?

It looks like I am missing something here... They why is it not common for the vehicle to overcharge a trailer's battery? Seems that we are talking the same setup here and I am just not finding complaints about this. So, what I am missing...

Solar battery charge through the 12v socket?

Again, do not need to monitor the DVR's battery for SOC, just need it to absorb current like a capacitor and not pull-down the main battery. Something is telling me that the OE system is good with this and will just see it as another load :) For the actual camera system, focusing on 12v units...

    EZ Drain oil valve/plug

Have used the Fumoto for a while and am still using it. The Expedition got one at the first oil change. To reduce the risk of something catching the release lever: - I rotate the assembly so that the lever is in the 12 O'clock position when closed. This only works on pans with a side drain...

Solar battery charge through the 12v socket?

Unless I am missing something, the charging system will handle a second battery behind an isolator just fine and merely see it as another load. Put another way, people who tow trailers with a battery (with and without an isloator) do this all the time without any reported issues or need to...

Solar battery charge through the 12v socket?

The Viofo looks neat. Had not considered a unit like that as I focused on systems that worked in both visible and IR ranges. Downside to working with IR is that it does not pass well through glass, so that is another factor I am working through.

    battery warning light

While this might not be it, I have seen alternators start to fail where the indicator is an on / off type behavior. Only way to see this happening is with a voltage gauge. As the alternator starts to die, the gauge (presuming an analog one) will look like a slow tail wag as the system voltage...

Solar battery charge through the 12v socket?

I looked into a 24/7 dashcam system myself. Am considering a similar approach to Cyclone's with a dedicated battery. The difference is that I am looking at a battery isolator so that the alternator will charge the dashcam's battery. Reasoning for the isolator is to prevent the dashcam system...

    2017 Expedition siren noise

Have not had that happen with the Expedition, but did in another Ford vehicle some time ago. At first it was intermittent across all speakers and eventually got to the point that it happened it all the time. Amp was replaced under warranty. Not saying that it is the case here, but just...

2016 expy Intercoolers and other mods

Welcome to the Expedition Forum! FWIW, the intercooler's condensation issue was supposedly fixed with the design that went into the '15+ Expeditions. Consider posting any codes so that others may chime-in versus throwing more parts at it. Also, posting project goals will help with inputs...

    Bench vs. Captains Seats

Ford did not design a good method to secure the cargo. So the lack of a middle 2nd row seat is not likely to make a big difference difference if the event is severe enough as stuff will fly over the gap from the seat backs to the roof. Packing might help some of this by placing items longer /...

    No GPS symbol

Agree with the logic of what that symbol might mean. And at the same time I'd expect to see a description in the owner's manual given that a loss of signal scenario is common, except that the manual is silent. This leaves us guessing as to what the indicator actually means. Maybe it is loss...

    No GPS symbol

No change in mine . . . Even when ~75' under water. Looking forward to whether others see this when they go through a tunnel.

    No GPS symbol

All well and good, but . . . I downloaded Ford's most recent owner's manual and there was no mention of this in the GPS section. Searched on key words and nothing there either. Will admit that I did not read the manual in its entirety, so it is possible that there is a description of this and...

Step into the world of LT's. It is common to see MAX COLD which is not MAX. ;)

    Mist Air Quality Service

Theory looks good. But makes me wonder how the world's population has survived breathing the air inside of a vehicle for over 100 years without this.. Just remember that the shop is likely getting money from commission ;)

Looks like Bilstein is now making 5100s for the 15-19s!!

Geeze . . . Why is it that on forums I watch, whenever somebody shares an experience on tire psi, people feel a need to jump on each other to prove who is right? I find it hilarious that people will go into flame mode about tire pressure, yet get bigger tires than what OE calls for. Or...

    Sync 3 maps

Exactly. And depending on the model, you can buy the traffic alerts which is a one-time cost. Can buy speed trap information too, but this is an annual cost. If you happen to travel outside of the US, can take all that functionality with you.

    Tire pressures

On my tires, max is not stated on the sidewall. When towing, I do start with the rears just under or at MAX COLD when cold. Even when empty, there is no noticeable difference to taking them down to lower pressures. Am sure there is some scientific test out there that will show a difference of...

    Sync 3 maps

Three issues with waze. It is battery intensive. It reports location back to the mothership. In metro areas, it makes a local highway incident a regional nightmare all the way down to clogging residential streets. Aside from that, it is good :D

    Headlight bulbs low beams.

Low beam projection is good on mine with the OE H11. Have experience and confidence with towing at night too. If I do switch to LED's, it will come from a goal of lowering power consumption to reduce the alternator's load. Reason I am holding back on a LED conversion is that (last I looked)...

    Sync 3 maps

Two words: Gar Min Bonus is that a stand-alone device does not have the potential to leak data of where you are going via the satellite link. Although, I have not found a way to prevent this from happening in terms of where we are at any given moment.

    2015-2017 Gear ratios and towing

While not completely on topic, but related... I just tried an air deflector on the roof. While it did nothing for mileage or the suspension's (lack of solid) stability with the 30' 8K trailer, it did help with sway from other vehicles. Without the deflector, even a Jeep pushed around the rig...

    Locked out

Check the fuse box as well. There is a fancy name for the fuse box which I do not remember at the moment. White sticker with 5 black numbers and 1 letter. The 5 numbers are the code.
