Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

Hey guys, I sold the truck a few months ago and it was still rock solid at that point. The guy I sold it to uses it to tow his bass boat all over the country and is extremely happy with the truck.

When to change rear control arms?

Seems like a safe bet, thanks!

When to change rear control arms?

Hey gang. I have a 2015 XL 4WD with standard suspension and 145K on the clock. I've been frustrated with how sloppy the handling has been, even with 5100s all the way around and 38psi in my tires. I recently went through the whole suspension and steering to see if anything was worn but didn't...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

Yep, everything still works great after swapping out the pads again!

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

I think Summit just needs to update their image to reflect the change made by PowerStop. The individual pads have the new design pictured.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

I got the K5577 kit, so the front pads are Z232087.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

That would be super frustrating! Now I have new calipers, lines, master cylinder, and low mileage ABS module, so I'd better be good to go for a while!

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

This "upgrade" definitely wasn't an improvement! The Bendix metallic pads have a great initial bite, so hopefully I get the performance I was looking for. After having a kid step out in front of my Sequoia (his hand was on my hood when I stopped), I want the best brakes possible for this heavy...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

Finally a good update...I put Bendix pads in the truck tonight and so far it feels greatly improved! I'll do a break-in procedure tonight for a real comparison.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

The "2nd generation" Powerstop pads don't have the tabs/ears. I wish I didn't toss the original pads because I could use them to test the theory...I think I'll grab a set of different metallic pads with the ears to see what happens.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

Yep, I did all new fluid (probably about 3 gallons of new fluid during bleeding and flushing). Mine still goes right to the floor without delay, so putting some break-in miles and doing the break-in procedure a few times hasn't helped me like others have said it did for them.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

I'm in the same boat. The pedal is still mushy and requires a lot more travel than it should (and will drop to the floor when pressed firmly) but the brakes do work so I've just been dealing with it. I will likely try to swap out more components in the future but don't want to deal with it...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

I'm really regretting throwing the pads away at this point. I have the rotors if I needed to try that and I could grab some other pads.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

That's fair but I don't have a better theory to act on. "These trucks have crappy brakes" doesn't explain a new condition after 130K miles and a hardware change. The condition didn't change after replacing calipers, lines, master cylinder, and HCU. I just pulled the front wheels again and the...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

Lol, I welcome any correctness on this ridiculous issue! Just to clarify, it's not that the pad isn't close enough to the rotor, it's that they're not parallel so the contact patch is uneven (see picture a few posts back). Again, the theory is that the caliper pushes it as flat as possible...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

It's clear that my brake pedal behavior (goes right to the floor) doesn't match the expected performance of the vehicle (yours takes firm pressure over time to go to the floor) so there's obviously some sort of problem. There are a limited number of factors that would allow a hydraulic cylinder...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

The pad covers 100% of the rotor diameter, so this is definitely not a good contact patch! I swapped the inner and outer on that side before doing my second break-in and it cleaned it right up, so I'm leaning toward a pad issue and not a caliper/bracket issue.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

The theory would be that the uneven contact patch is causing the pedal to drop as it twists the pad flat, so the old ones wouldn't have that issue. Just a theory! EDIT: This was after the first break-in session.

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

Thanks guys! I did go do the break in procedure again and I think it feels a little better (or maybe I just want that to be true...haha) but it's still super easy to push it straight to the floor. Having to hold it for ~30 seconds is more like what I'd expect! I don't think it's a safety issue...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

I've read about a few other people having this issue, specifically with Powerstop brakes. One of the stories I read stated that the pedal firmed up after about a week of driving, so the assumption was that the pads and rotors weren't parallel (which would make sense given the uneven wear I...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

I can get used to spongy, but this is way worse than anything I've experienced with this truck before. I get almost no feedback from the pedal until I'm about at the floor. Messing with it again tonight, I pinched all 4 brake lines and got good pedal pressure. I released the clamps on the...

Replaced pads and rotors, brake pedal sinking to floor now?!?

I changed the front ones already, but I'll try to see if the rears are an issue. Thanks!

Dang, that's one reason I don't miss living in NY! Not as much rust here in Iowa.
